5 nights in Anna's Swedish Coastal Cabin!

5 nights in Anna's Swedish Coastal Cabin!
We all love to hear Anna, our Kindergarten Teacher’s, magical stories about Gotland, a large Swedish island in the Baltic Sea. Anna spent her childhood holidays here, swimming and exploring its characterful wilderness, sandy beaches and sculptural sea stacks. Every summer Anna returns to her Gotland cabin with her mama, where they craft many of the lovely things you can find in our School Fairs.
So we are especially thrilled to include a first for this year’s auction…. 5 nights in Anna’s Gotland Cabin between Easter and the end of August 2025* - giving you the chance to create your own special, Scandinavian holiday memories.
(* The cabin is booked out from 5-12 July and 18 July - 20 August). Value £425.

Gotland – where Viking-era history meets unique natural scenery
Anyone who’s set foot on Gotland’s soil would agree there’s something magical about it. This unique island off the southeast coast of Sweden has it all – natural scenery, remarkable history and unique local flavours.
Historically significant, its main town Visby is a Viking-era wonder and UNESCO World Heritage Site. A wander around its cobbled streets is a transportation to medieval times, with idyllic cottages covered with sweet-smelling roses.
It’s well worth a visit any time of year – every season has its unique charm – but the island comes alive particularly during summer when temperatures hover around the 20°C mark, and the waters are at their most bathing-friendly.
Anna’s cabin ‘Björkstugan’ is in Ronehamn, about an hour’s drive south from Visby. An incredibly peaceful place, within walking distance (500m) to the beach, the stunning Ålarve nature reserve and cosy eateries.
Ålarve nature reserve & Surrounds
The Ålarve nature reserve is a lovely hiking area of low-lying, sheep-grazed, coastal meadows, coves and pine forests by the sea.
A nature lover’s paradise, the Ålarve is carpeted with Thrift, an evergreen herb with long stems bearing spherical, pink flowers which colous the beach meadows pink when it blooms in spring and early summer. Other coastal plants to spot on your walks are beach wormwood, yellow warts, beach creeper, reef fingerwort, goosewort and blue cove reeds.
The meadows harbour an abundance of bird life including herring gulls, terns, great cormorant, greylag goose as well as waders such as roskarl, tufted whip, greater sandpiper and shearwater.
With excellent footpaths the Ålarve is buggy friendly.
Venturing northwards up the coastland, Gotland’s sea stacks – or ‘raukar’ as they’re called in Swedish, are an otherworldly sight. Folhammar nature reserve (a 40 min drive from Ronehamn) is known for its natural eroded stones - a 500 m long sea stack field of reef-limestone, reaching a height up to 6 metres, rich in fossils, including stromatoporoids, and the remains of crinoids.
Foodie Hotspot
Known as a foodie hotspot, Gotland enjoys wonderful local produce including freshly caught seafood and has a significant craft brewery scene too. Just a few minutes’ walk from Anna’s cabin is Kapten Grogg, a friendly, down to earth cabin restaurant, with an old school, rock & roll vibe. On a windless day with sunshine, this is pretty much the place to be, with seaviews served up with organic burgers and the owner’s amazing array of home-made chilli sauces.
The Fish Truck in the harbour serves up smoked fish and lunch, while Under the Tree café serves lunches and home-baked cakes along with music in the summer.
The Cabin ‘Björkstugan’
Björkstugan, Ronehamn, Hemse, Gotlands län, Sweden
Take a break and unwind in this peaceful oasis. Björkstugan is two adjacent cottages with a shared, large verandah. It sleeps 4 plus a baby (in two double beds and a travel cot). The cabins are wheelchair accessible and are located 500m from the sea, the harbor, the beach and the Ålarve nature reserve, as well as a swimming jetty for a refreshing morning dip.
Cabin 1 has a bedroom, mini kitchen and living room. Cabin 2 has a bedroom and the bathroom.
There’s free shared parking, a playhouse and garden, as well as sun loungers and a barbecue. A small grocery store is approx. 1 km away.

Getting here
To really enjoy Gotland you need a car. You can either fly to Visby, or fly to Stockholm and then take a ferry to Gotland/Visby. Europcar and Avis both offer car hire on Gotland.
Alternatively you can make a road trip of it and drive via France or the Netherlands, up through Germany and Denmark.

When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
