The Story Behind Banksy’s Peckham Rock Prank
In 2005, Banksy made history by secretly installing the Peckham Rock in the British Museum’s Roman Britain gallery. Designed to resemble a prehistoric artefact, the piece mocked the concept of "official" art. Featuring a figure pushing a shopping trolley and a satirical museum label, it went unnoticed for three days before it was discovered. This audacious act became one of the defining moments of Banksy’s career.

In 2018, Peckham Rock was reissued and officially exhibited by the museum in 'I Object: Ian Hislop’s Search for Dissent'. The accompanying Peckham Rock wooden postcard was released by the British Museum with Banksy’s approval that same year.

Freddie is a sponsored team rider with Duotone (he’s currently national youth vice-champion) and a qualified windsurf instructor. He loves teaching all ages and ability levels (but ideally aged 9 or above). His goal is to get you hooked on watersports or (if you already are) to help move to the next level. If you are taking up the sport, he can help you with kit decisions and let you know all the best places to go in different weather conditions.

He can provide all the kit required (at any level) for one person at a time (maybe two, depending on what you want to do) and you’ll sail either in the harbour or at West Wittering.

William Drummond is a Petworth based artist with a focus on landscapes, seascapes and animals.
