Company present Snakes and Ladders, their new mental health awareness
production.
‘Snakes and Ladders’ looks at three separate story lines,
each looking at the struggles of dealing with mental ill-health.
We see Dan’s struggle with Depression and historical Self Harm, and hear through
the personification of the illness what he may be experiencing. Chloe has anxiety and we
hear of her struggling through exams and how she has had to deal with
relationships, and rely on the support of family and friends. Finally we see two parents struggling to come to terms with their son’s
eating disorder and figuring how they can best support him. Ultimately, through
the three story lines we learn about each illness and ways in which people
cope, and we reinforce that there is hope and a road of recovery which
sometimes can seem so distant.
‘Snakes and Ladders’ seeks to start a
conversation and raise awareness about Mental Health, illnesses & well being,
that we all have it and should care for it. It signposts those struggling to
places for help and tries to begin to break down any stigma that still exists
and encourage self-help techniques and therapeutic tools. Above all, the piece
aims to highlight hope & worth and show that recovery is possible, we all
have a part to play and we are not alone.
