Cancer Fund for Children Ireland

At Cancer Fund for Children, we support children and young people (aged 0-18) who have been diagnosed with cancer. Cancer treatment is frightening, challenging, and isolating and can devastate families emotionally, physically, and financially. For a diagnosed child, months of gruelling treatment and its side effects can impact their mental health, their education, and their friendships.

Our mission is simple - to support every child impacted by cancer, so they are better equipped to cope in the knowledge that they are not alone.

Children and families from across Ireland can benefit from a nurturing break in our short break centre Daisy Lodge, Newcastle Co. Down.  Daisy Lodge is restorative space that is purpose-built to support families at the most vulnerable, difficult, and exhausting time in their lives.

The need for short breaks is overwhelming and increasing. We can only provide one in seven families with time and space together in this tranquil environment, which is why we remain committed to building a new Daisy Lodge in Cong Co. Mayo. A new Daisy Lodge in Cong Co. Mayo will allow us to increase the number of families we support from 500 to 1000 a year.

Cancer won’t stop during the coronavirus pandemic and neither will we. With each day we spend at home, during these challenging times, another family in Ireland will receive the devastating news that their child has cancer. Our families tell us that they couldn’t cope without Cancer Fund for Children’s support and demand for therapeutic short breaks is only going to increase throughout this crisis.
