For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn Taking inspiration from Ernest Hemingway’s six word short story, Lindsey Mendick presents this beautiful series of meticulously recreated ceramic children’s shoes. Supposedly written as a $10 bet that Hemingway could write 6 word short story with depth and complexity, Mendick’s shoes have a similarly haunting power to them. Life-like in size, the shoes are a tribute to the children that she has never felt able to have. This auction is very special to us as all money raised will specifically fund a new initiative, Quench Summer School. This is a free summer holidays club running for two full days a week across the whole summer holidays. Aimed at young people aged 11+ we will have high profile visiting artists, gallery trips and supply all materials. We know that with the rise in the cost of living holidays are particularly daunting for parents so we will also provide two healthy meals, travel expenses and personal art materials to each young participant so they can continue their art education at home.
