Polka Imaginarium Gala

Welcome to the auction for the Polka Imaginarium.

Polka was the first stand-alone professional theatre dedicated to children in the UK, reimagining what a theatre venue could and should be for children. The work we do is now more important than ever. Live theatre stimulates imagination and creative development. Inclusivity and accessibility have been central to Polka’s mission since opening in 1979.

Polka Theatre is approaching a crucial milestone in its history – the first major capital redevelopment of its premises. Our urgently needed redevelopment will include new state-of-the-art facilities and the UK’s first specialist national centre for Early Year’s theatre.

With the proposed improvements, we will be able to preserve what is special about Polka – a place of wonder and inspiration for children, schools, families and artists and a vibrant hub for our community.

This auction culminates in a major fundraising evening for Polka Theatre on Wednesday 16 May 2018.

This auction is open for you to bid online until 12 noon on 15th May when online bidding will close.  Bidding will re-open at the Gala on 16th May, and will only be available at the venue.

If you are unable to attend the Gala, but wish to bid on an item, you can still give yourself the best chance of winning by placing a proxy (maximum) bid on this page. We then will carry your bid over to the main auction on the evening of the event and continue bidding up for you up to your maximum. You will be contacted after the Gala if your bid has been successful.

When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
