More details can be found here: https://www.actionforchildren.org.uk/how-to-help/fundraising-events/not-now-bernard/
The auction will run from 17th August to 2nd November. Details, materials used and sizes for each piece can be found on each auction lot. Auction administered and organised by Andersen Press.

An original drawing by Robert Starling, based on Not Now, Bernard
A5, paint and ink on paper
About the artist:
Robert Starling began doodling creatures and characters at school and hasn’t stopped since. He lives and works in Norwich, and when he’s not sketching up new characters or writing down stories he can be found sculpting, brewing coffee, adjusting his headphones or foraging in the kitchen for cake. Oh, and teaching kids. His debut picture book Fergal is Fuming was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize.

An original piece by Sav Akyuz celebrating Not Now, Bernard's 40th anniversary
A4, ink and pencil on paper
About the artist:
With 14 years of storyboard artistry behind him, Sav has been asked to sketch many things by TV advertising executives. Things that excite (sports, cars, a combination of the two), and those that, perhaps, don’t quite hold such glamorous appeal (roasted vegetables, pints of beer…OK, roasted vegetables). But it hasn’t all been Porsches and potatoes - Sav has also served time as a visual effects artist on numerous feature films; enjoyed an unforgettable term at the legendary ‘Jim Henson’s Creature Shop’; sweated as a cloth layer-upper for famous Brit brands Burberry and Aquascutum; and, perhaps most proudly of all, peddled 99 Flake’s and Funny Feet as a wannabe ‘Mr Whippy’ stationed outside the Tate Britain.
After all the toil, sweat and melted ice-cream, the sketcher of other people’s stories is all set to bring his own tales to life. Charting the adventures of a mischievous, prankster bear, Sav’s debut picture book was published by Walker Books in 2015.

An original piece from Paula Bowles, celebrating Not Now, Bernard
A5, paint and ink on paper
About the artist:
I grew up in Hertfordshire, UK, with a house full of animals, and always loved drawing, reading and playing in my imagination, so I studied illustration at Falmouth College of Arts and became an illustrator.
Now I live in Bristol, where I have worked as an illustrator for over 10 years. I used to work in a preschool, where I got to run around pretending to be a crocodile, went on Bear Hunts and made play-dough cakes, which was good fun, but now I'm very excited to be working on books with Simon & Schuster and Nosy Crow.
As well as drawing, I love getting out of the city for long walks and cycle trips in the fresh air, snuggled indoors with a good book, discovering new music, and dancing the Lindy hop. Oh, and I once learned to walk the tightrope! @Paula_Bowles

A Pathways Mentee - About the Artist:
Zhi Ling Lee is an illustrator originally from Malaysia who now calls London home. Her aesthetic is driven by her love of beautiful typography and illustrations with rich textures and a strong narrative component. With a background in software engineering and IT, Zhi Ling brings a unique perspective to her creative projects – a duality wherein whimsical and playful illustrations are anchored on thoughtful concepts and solid design principles. She is continually inspired by mid-century artists such as Alice and Martin Provensen, and Mary Blair whose works showcase a mastery of form and colour that Zhi Ling hopes to attain with her own pieces. As an avid reader since childhood, she is excited to further her creative career by exploring the realm of children’s book illustration as a visual storyteller.
About Pathways
Pathways is a new two-year illustration programme for talented, ambitious illustrators from backgrounds that are under-represented in children’s publishing. Pathways is produced and delivered by Pop Up Projects (a national children’s literature agency) and House of Illustration (the UK’s only public gallery dedicated solely to illustration and graphic art). It is supported through investment from 21 publishers and universities, all of whom contribute time and resources to deliver the programme.
Pathways tutors include world-class children’s illustrators, university illustration tutors, and children’s publishing editors and art directors. The packed learning programme includes residentials, masterclasses, short courses, one-to-one mentoring with illustrators and editors, publisher placements and opportunities to learn education and events practice.

An original piece celebrating Not Now, Bernard by Za Othman
A4, pastels and inks on paper
A Pathways Mentee - About the artist:
Za loves painting late into the night and uses the music of Leonard Cohen to lure an assortment of characters into finding a home on her canvases. She enjoys exploring the interplay between the darker and lighter sides of our psyche, perhaps influenced by her love of the Muppets and David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. She is also intrigued by the works of Yuri Norstein, Daniel Clowes and Jon Klassen, and dreams of creating children’s books, animations and comics inspired by walking around the world with her own travelling puppet show and a donkey. http://www.corduroyark.com

An original piece from Ananya Rao-Middleton celebrating 40 years of Not Now, Bernard
A4, signed print
A Pathways Mentee - about the artist:
Ananya is an artist and freelance illustrator who uses vibrant, vivid watercolour and digital paintings as a way of expressing herself post-brain injury. She started watercolour painting in November 2018 after a brain injury left her housebound. While she may have been trapped inside, her imagination became an escape as she turned her hand to creating fantastical illustrations. Women of colour are seen roaming with dinosaurs or amongst wildflowers, embodying the freedom and adventure she craved. Vivid, vibrant and explorative, Ananya uses colours inspired by nature to create wild, tropical backdrops for her pieces.
She describes herself as a feminist artist, and is always looking for the next opportunity to translate political issues that matter to her into art. She strives to create stories and illustrations with marginalised children in mind, inspired to fill the gap in literature available that tells of their diverse experiences living in the UK.

A Pathways mentee - about the artist:
Hi! I’m Lillian, a very passionate Graphic Designer and Illustrator.
After graduating from UAL with a BA (Hons) in Graphic and Media Design, I freelanced for five years- illustrating, designing for print and web, and leading and supporting art workshops, art-based events and exhibitions. I also started The Little Matters, a place I share my enthusiasm for adorable animals and cheesy humour as illustrated products with the world.
In 2016, I began working as an in-house designer at 2Simple Software, an Edtech company that creates fun and engaging education software for Primary Schools. I illustrated a number of e-books, got involved with UI/UX design and worked with developers on creating new apps.
When I’m not busy designing and drawing, you may also find me playing piano, practicing aikido or fending off my two little ones :)

When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
