Grow is a youth development charity
that works with vulnerable young people in Sheffield. All of our programmes are
nature-based and create the opportunity for young people to enjoy the therapeutic
benefits of being around the natural world!
Covid-19 has had a disproportionately
negative impact on both young people and also those suffering with mental
ill-health. We want to work with more people in Sheffield but need to raise
funds in order to enable this work. This art auction will raise much needed
funds to enable the continuation of our work.
This event will directly support our Covid-10 responde programme Walk & Talk. To find out more about the programme, click here
We are so grateful to all the artists
involved who have generously supported this event. For many of the artists the past year has also been challenging due to galleries being closed and events being postponed - with this in mind, their generosity is particularly poignant. Unless the artists have requested otherwise, we have committed to covering the artists costs associated with each piece from the winning bid price. This makes the event sustainable for the artists but still raises lots of funds for Grow!
To reduce contact, each winning item
will be collected by the winning bidder from the artist’s studio/address. Postage
can be arranged at an additional cost to the bidder.

Name: The Sky Engorged by Sea Medium: Oil and inks Paper: Canvas board Size: 51cm x 40cm (unframed)
What is the inspirations behind this piece?
This piece is inspired by two things: firstly, the notion of being lost at sea and having no concept of what is sky, horizon or sea; the water almost consuming the sky. Secondly, this piece reminds me of a time I was surfing in a stormy sea. A wave caused me to fall and get swept under the water. I lost all sense of up and down and found the experience terrifying and somehow exhilarating.

Name of piece: New Stream, Loxley Common Medium: Ink on gesso board Paper type/ canvas: Wood panel (can be hung as it is, or framed) Size: 20 x 20cm (x 2cm deep)
What is the inspiration behind this piece:
I like the simplicity of using a black and white palette and modest, traditional materials such as ink and pencil, partly as a sort of antithesis to the constant stream of vivid digital imagery we are exposed to.
This piece is from a series of small monochrome works which stem from a preoccupation with transient landscapes, specifically the new landscapes created following major flooding in Sheffield (November 2019) where rivers changed course; transforming, shifting and depositing material; and new water bodies were created. Preceding the flood, a months worth of rain fell in just 36 hours.
Artist bio:
As a practising artist & landscape architect, my work is concerned with the materials and processes of landscape; both natural and fabricated. Current paintings and drawings investigate the interplay between space and form, absence and presence, precision and spontaneity.

When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another
member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new
maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
