An Icelandic evening and supper with Eirný Sigurðardóttir: The Wonderful World of Icelandic Cheese and Skyr
Friday May 11 19:30-22:00
This is a unique opportunity to taste and understand traditional cooked curd cheeses, semi soft and blue cheeses and skyr, all products that are only available in Iceland. The evening is presented by Eirny Sigurdadóttir, who shares her considerable knowledge of Iceland’s unusual cheese history, punctuated with anecdotes, tastings and supper. “It’s not only about the history of cheese in Iceland, it’s the history of dairy.”
Eirny is a highly acclaimed ‘curd nerd’ and the Icelandic contributor to the recent ‘Oxford Companion to Cheese’ published in 2016. She is the owner of the acclaimed Búrið delicatessen and cheese school in Reykjavik, and a supporter of Iceland’s slow food movement.
The atmosphere for the evening will be typically Icelandic: interactive, informal and relaxed, and accompanied by Icelandic charcuterie, cheese, artisan breads, relishes and salads as a main course with a traditional skyr dessert.
The evening works best with a small group, where Eirny can mingle and take questions. The location will be in Surbiton, at Jean's Cafe in Berrylands Road. The cost for the evening, with supper, is £55 per person. If you have a voucher, the price is £35.
Eirny's visit to England is in collaboration with local specialist holiday company Iceland Traveller. More information about Eirny, Iceland Traveller and the forthcoming Iceland Outdoors food holiday to Iceland in 2019 can be found here.
Tickets are non-refundable, except if the event is cancelled by order of the event management. A printed or electronic version of the ticket is required for entry. Tickets may not be copied or printed more than once. Each ticket is numbered and has a unique QR code. Entry will refused for duplicate tickets.
