The Great
Dixter Charitable Trust is raising funds towards its Student Training Fund. Dixter is renowned for the teaching of its
distinct vision, which has been handed on from Christo to Fergus and from Fergus to the
gardeners who come to learn at Dixter.
Some Very Fine Wines Christopher Lloyd’s godson Michael
Schuster is acknowledged internationally as an expert wine taster, wine
writer and wine teacher with over 30 years experience. Michael has generously
selected and donated some exceptional wines for us to auction for the Student
Fund.
Overnight stay at Great Dixter for up to 4 people. Those who know Great Dixter
understand the quirky charm of an old great house, but few have the opportunity
to experience being a guest at this extraordinary house and garden.
This the the chance to enjoy the experience of staying in the Lutyens side of the
House, having a delicious evening meal prepared for you and your guest(s) and relaxing in front of the fire in the Yeoman’s Hall. There is also the added
treat of wandering the gardens at daybreak and evening, breakfast in the dining room in the private side of the house, and a House tour. Two bedrooms to
be reserved in the House.
A handmade Dixter bench. Great Dixter maintains its ancient woodlands, and part of that management entails regular coppicing of timber. Our Estate team work in the Great Barn in all weathers making products to sell. This sweet chestnut bench is one of the largest benches to come from the barn, so a rare opportunity to bid for this substantial seat. (Purchaser to collect or arrange shipping)
Minimum bid is £300 (Bid increments are £50).

A Grand Cru White Burgundy – Corton-Charlemagne A superb Grand Cru white from a very fine vintage – 2016 2016 Corton-Charlemagne (Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot) This has all the fruit, substance, tensile acidity and length that are the hallmarks of fine white Corton. Serve cold rather than really chilled – and remember it is warming in the glass from the moment you pour. We usually ‘double-decant’ (from bottle to jug/decanter, then back into the bottle) a couple of hours in advance to allow the bouquet to blossom.
Very flexible with food – all sorts of seafood, poultry, white meats. UK mainland shipping included.
Kindly donated by Michael Schuster

A fully mature Grand Cru red from an excellent red vintage – 2010
2010 Charmes-Chambertin (Domaine Camille Giroud) ‘Charmes’ is, as its name suggests, not a big wine, rather it is more porcelain-delicate, also porcelain fine. Relatively pale, sweetly ripe fruited, mouth-coatingly fragrant, full of gentle energy, transparent, long and Grand Cru classy. A classic expression of Burgundy as ‘power and delicacy’. I’d decant it off its modest deposit an hour or so before drinking. And, as with all red Burgundy, serve on the cooler side - 16/17°C is ideal. Definitely NOT ‘room temperature’ – these days more like 21/22°C. The bottle should feel distinctly ‘cool to the palm’. It’s make up, with relatively little tannin, means that it is closer in structure to a white wine than, for example, claret (Red Bordeaux) or Rhône. You can ‘cuddle’ ... to taste, if required. UK Mainland shipping included.

A really fine Christmas Dinner selection for six to eight round the table - or just to be used on individual occasions. Shipping in UK included.
1 Bottle Non Vintage Moet & Chandon Champagne Excellent aperitif bubbly. Mainland UK shipping included.
1 Bottle 2020 Chablis (Domaine William Fèvre) A top notch Chablis address whose basic wine is always a benchmark. This is sappy, vital village Chablis. Mainland UK shipping included.
2 Bottles 2015 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru (Comte Armand) A great producer and a lovely, sunny vintage. This ‘generic’ 1er Cru is made from two of the best parcels in the commune. At ten years it is just starting to drink beautifully – a long, joyously juicy red Burgundy. Mainland shipping included.
1 Bottle 2001 Château Doisy-Daene Barsac 2001 is one of the great post-war Sauternes vintages, and Doisy-Daene is always one of the classiest Barsacs. In delicious full maturity.
1 Bottle 20 Year Old Malmsey Madeira (Henriques & Henriques) One of Christo’s absolute favourites. Malmsey is the sweetest of the Madeira grapes and this twenty year old wine is a magnificent example – which you can broach and then keep opened for as long as you like, as it has done all its oxydising in cask. A wonderful sipping wine – best paired with a fine ‘moist-sponge’ madeira cake. My wife Monika’s lovely recipe is overleaf. SERVICE – Temperature makes such a difference. Serve the Champagne and the two whites well chilled – you can always ‘cuddle’ the glass if you want the wine a bit warmer. The red burgundy should be served on the cooler side - 16/17°C is ideal. NOT ‘room temperature’. The bottle should feel ‘cool to the palm’. It’s make up, with relatively little tannin, means that it is closer in structure to a white wine than, for example, claret (Red Bordeaux) or Rhône. Again, you can cuddle ... to taste.

When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another
member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new
maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
