Gaza Biennale
Read more ...Today is a deeply meaningful day in our program — shaped by the voices of Gaza and held in honour of those creating against all odds. Every workshop and talk comes directly from artists on the ground, while our evening carries us into the wider Palestinian creative constellation.
We close with a special fundraiser and art auction, raising vital funds for the Gaza Biennale artists — an evening of generosity, resistance, and collective care.
A special opportunity to directly support Gaza’s artists. We’ll be hosting an intimate auction featuring:
– 35 limited edition prints from the Gaza Biennale
– Works by guest artists in solidarity
All pieces will be available for bidding — each bid a gesture of love, support, and belief in a future for Palestinian culture.
100% of proceeds go directly to the artists. Please give generously — not just to attend, but to pay honourable prices for phenomenal art born from extraordinary circumstances. For those who’ve attended before, you’ll know: these works are powerful.
This is more than an exhibition and program — it is a call to gather, witness, and support. We are raising vital funds for our work and for the artists of the Gaza Biennale. Donations — offered with generosity and love — will help us continue holding space for voices, visions, and stories that must not be lost.
Tickets are marked as ‘free’ to keep the doors open wide, but we are humbly asking for donations with each booking. In a time of urgent erasure, every act of support carries immense weight. If you can, please give with abundance. Let this be an act of care, a gesture of solidarity, a refusal to let the light go out.

About Gaza Biennale:
Since April 2024, artists from Gaza began to gather together under a single project, to find ways to utilize art to resist this genocide. Many artists in Gaza have been working throughout this war, defying all challenges, creating works that remind us that art is essential to life and our survival as a species. A collective project has emerged into a global art event, the Gaza Biennale.
The significance of this project lies in its ability to place art at the forefront of a global awakening, to challenge the art field to reckon with the weight of genocide, and to present a model of resilience, and fulfill a desperate need to recognize that the depth and complexity of human life. The right of a people to exist with dignity on their land is fundamental to the purpose of art itself. The work we present goes beyond breaking news, media coverage, and statistics. Despite the sorrow and pain brought by the circumstances, and amid the scent of death, artists in Gaza plant seeds of hope for humanity, not only in Gaza but across the world, through creativity and innovation.
The Gaza Biennale marks a creative step outside the traditional frameworks of exhibitions. It reflects the sensitivity and specificity of our situation, making it an urgent and exceptional event. At the heart of the artistic purpose is the struggle of a people to survive.
The Gaza Biennale is a collective event, a growing network, and perhaps a movement. While war has scattered and displaced our people, the biennale gathers over 40 artists on a single platform, uniting their voices.
Emerging from deep roots, this Biennale extends an open invitation to local and international institutions to host and produce these exhibitions and to work with us as partners. We offer a unique opportunity to art institutions to exhibit invaluable works that reflect the need for creativity in the darkest of times.
Can the art world turn its attention to the reality of Gaza today? Should Gaza’s artists create art under the weight of genocide? Will the art world honor this work rather than exploit it? These are the questions this project contends with.
This biennale proposes new rules of engagement within the context of art. The stakes are too high to wait for the appraisal from some established framework. At the same time we are witnessing the failure of institutional frameworks to prevent the desecration of human life. So from these cracks and disingenuous policies, we are stepping forward on our own accord, creating work that speaks with a force that cannot be denied. Each artist, each artwork, each exhibition exists despite the impossible reality from which it is born, as its material forms emerge in its defiance.
With the near total destruction of artworks, monuments, museums, mosques, churches, and cultural heritage sites, how can we reclaim what is lost? There is much to accomplish, and this biennale is only the beginning, as Gaza will continue to begin again and again, just as humanity and art is a perpetual rebirth.
We represent a future realized from the very best of what humanity has to offer: the power to transcend the worst of humanity through creativity, and our capacity to witness the worst parts of our collective behavior in order to build a better world.
This biennale is a unique event unlike any previous biennale. We invite viewers to look deep into themselves, to learn from the struggle, and to bow in humility before the fragility of life on this earth. “We hereby announce, from the land of Gaza, the launch of the Gaza Biennale, with the participation of over 40 artists, to affirm that Palestinian art pierces through all besieged spaces. No war can stop the dreams of dreamers, and no mechanisms of domination extinguish the light in the hearts and minds of creators. On behalf of all the participating artists, including those who, due to war and geographical division, are unable to join us physically, we affirm the following:
1) Through art, we resist all forms of genocide and oppression.
2) We continue to give and create, despite all obstacles and challenges.
3) Through art, we transcend barriers, ensuring that the voices of Palestinian artists reach the world, reaffirming Palestinian’s right to speak and be heard.
4) The Biennale represents the starting point for collective artistic work, uniting many parties and institutions that believe in the justice of our cause and the power of art.
5) The Biennale emerged despite dispersion, displacement, and suffering endured by artists, gathering to fill a need—for invention, dignity and purpose, we present a vision for a better future.
This Biennale is a call to the world, to artists and cultural institutions, to stand in solidarity with Palestinian artists, support them, and work together to ensure that their voices and stories remain present, and that their works remain a testament to struggle and resilience, lighting a path for humanity in the most dire times.”

About the pice:
Families living in safety in their homes are hunted by bombs like swallows struck by arrows, their nests destroyed. The swallow still circles above the rubble, comforting those now living in tents.
We left our safe home in a hurry, unable to take our precious things—artworks, valuable books, certificates, and inherited treasures. Bombs and missiles chased us, leaving us displaced—searching for shelter among rubble, sidewalks, schools, or hospitals. All we see is bombing, fire, destruction, and the smell of death. We search for a sip of water, a bite of food. We once lived with dignity in our homes—now we live in humiliation and pain.

She emerged from the rubble alive, wounded and in pain, when her house was bombed—her husband perished beneath its ruins. Diana was pregnant, and months later gave birth—undergoing a C-section without anesthesia due to the hospital's lack of supplies. She now ventures out searching for food and milk for her baby, carrying her exhausted body as she hides the infant beneath her cloak, taking shelter behind a wall, hoping for safety.

About the piece: After an airstrike hit a mosque within a shelter center, bodies were no longer identified by names, but by weight. A Palestinian elder stands, her face turned into a suspended scale or a clock frozen at the moment of destruction. She gathers with her hands the remaining limbs, placing them in black bags, measuring the loss in kilograms—as though grief could be weighed.

About the piece: We carry immense pain with us wherever we are displaced due to the ongoing genocide against every Palestinian, especially in Gaza since October 2023. Perhaps the most difficult of these pains is loss: the loss of home, safety, and our normal rhythms of life. But the most painful is the loss of those we love. Using oil on canvas, I tried to convey the feelings of loss. Loss is a composite artwork drawn from the colorful, beautiful details of life in Gaza. The shift in the painting’s colors—from vibrant to faded—reflects the devastating transformation our lives have undergone due to a war that destroyed our homes and took away what we valued most. There is no beginning or end in Loss, symbolizing a war machine that leads only to a spiral of violence and bloodshed. Yet within this same painting resides an ongoing sense of hope—hope that sustains the Palestinian journey of resilience and diaspora, continuing for decades.

About the piece:
At the top of the painting, a house stands tall on a flying rock—once safe, stable, and peaceful, full of warmth and memories. But now, the house is just a distant memory, floating above a tragic reality. Below, destruction spreads brutally—collapsed walls, shattered dreams, and lives undone.
Chaos reigns, as though the earth opened its mouth to devour all that was once beautiful. In the center, my head falls downward—my life turned upside down. I no longer know where to go or how to face this sudden shift. I carry unspeakable trauma and confusion, seeking answers that will not come. My body reflects the unbearable burden I bear—the indescribable pain. This painting tells the story of one who lost their security overnight, a story of transformation from life to death, from stability to chaos. It’s a reminder of how fragile safety is, and how life can be overturned in a moment.

About the piece:
Not merely a painting, but a visual scream against forgetting. It stands on the edge between grief and rage, farewell and protest. The child’s body here does not represent just one child, but scorched innocence and a future crushed under the wheels of massacre. The smoke rising from the mother’s eyes is not just post-bombing debris; it’s a metaphor for tears that found no water—so they burned instead. This piece asks a profound existential question: What is the point of art in the presence of death? And it offers an answer: Art is what remains when humanity is crushed—it is what screams when voices are stolen.

About the piece:
Faces suspended between fear and anger, between shock and defiance. Souls lost in the vacuum of war—trapped. A state of collective disorientation where pain becomes facial expression, silence becomes a suffocated scream, and the world turns into a black hole that swallowed everything: memory, hope, and life. This work embodies a single, recurring moment we live every day—a moment of falling into a dark hole, into the unknown.

*****
About the piece: Occupation missiles burned the artistic heritage, possessions, and paintings in the studio. Nothing remained but ash and frame remnants—witnesses to the brutality of the fire and the fragility of the stolen scene. Our colors and white spaces still speak through the walls.
Soon, we may be gifted a golden frame—but it will surely contain only ashes and a piece of white cloth, like our hearts and the spaces where our lines and colors once soared.
Here, those lines now kneel beside our shadows and briefly find rest. Part of The Rocket and the Carrot project.

About the piece: We are the forgotten… here in Palestine… in Gaza…All we can do is scream. We scream in agony, hunger, oppression, darkness, and death. This piece is inspired by Edvard Munch’s The Scream, but reimagined to reflect the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. Many are screaming in this painting—behind them, a city reduced to rubble. From within the debris, a two-toned explosion emerges, killing us. These people scream out of fear and despair. And the screams continue… atop the ruins of our city.

1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
