Title: The Abuse of Power
Genre: Biography
Format: Paperback (First Edition)
Signed Only
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
As Prime Minister for three years and Home Secretary for six years, Theresa May confronted a series of issues in which the abuse of power led to devastating results for individuals and significantly damaged the reputation of, and trust in, public institutions and politicians. From the Hillsborough and Grenfell tragedies, to the Daniel Morgan case and parliamentary scandals, the powerful repeatedly chose to use their power not in the interests of the powerless but to serve themselves or to protect the organisation to which they belonged.
The Abuse of Power is a searing exposé of injustice and an impassioned call to exercise power for the greater good. Drawing on examples from domestic and international affairs she was personally involved in at the highest level, including Stop and Search and the Salisbury Poisonings, the former prime minister argues for a radical rethink in how we approach our politics and public life.
The Author:
Theresa has served as Member of Parliament for Maidenhead since 1997 and has held several positions within Parliament since. She was a member of the Shadow Cabinet from 1999 to 2010, and from 2002 to 2003 was the first female Chairman of the Conservative Party. In 2010, she was appointed Home Secretary, a position which she held for 6 years before becoming Prime Minister. She served as Prime Minister for three years, until July 2019.
Theresa had a varied education spanning both the state and private sectors, and both grammar school and comprehensive school. She read Geography at St Hugh’s College, Oxford University. She started her career at the Bank of England and went on to hold posts at the Association for Payment Clearing Services (APACS) as Head of the European Affairs Unit and Senior Adviser on International Affairs.
Theresa has been involved in politics at all levels for many years, starting out stuffing envelopes at her local Conservative Association before going on to be a councillor in the London Borough of Merton from 1986 to 1994. During that time she was Chairman of Education between 1988 and 1990 and Deputy Group Leader and Housing Spokesman between 1992 and 1994.
Theresa was elected Member of Parliament for Maidenhead in May 1997. She lives in the constituency and is an active local campaigner. Her local activity has included campaigns to improve the local train service, bring a minor injuries unit to St Marks Hospital, and improve Maidenhead town centre.
She has held several positions within Parliament since 1997. She was a member of the Shadow Cabinet from 1999 to 2010, and from 2002 to 2003 was the first female Chairman of the Conservative Party.
Theresa was appointed Home Secretary in May 2010 and became the longest-serving Conservative Home Secretary for over a century. During this time she oversaw reductions in crime, reform of the police, and the introduction of the landmark Modern Slavery Act.Following her election as Leader of the Conservative Party, Theresa was appointed Prime Minister in July 2016, a position she held until July 2019. As Prime Minister, she oversaw the largest ever cash boost to the NHS and the largest expansion of mental health services in a generation; launched a 25-Year Environment Plan and introduced legislation to end the UK’s contribution to global warming entirely; published a Modern Industrial Strategy to ensure that the jobs of the future are created across the whole country not just in London; and established the first ever Race Disparity Audit to shine a light on injustices. During her time in Downing Street, the UK’s national debt fell, there were more people in work than ever before, and taxes were cut for 32 million people.
Theresa was re-elected as the MP for Maidenhead in December 2019 and continues to speak regularly in the House of Commons on a range of local, national, and international issues.

Title: The Secrets of Filming Swallows & Amazons (1974)
Genre: TV & Film : Autobiography
Format: Hardback - First Edition
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
The behind the scenes filmography of the original movie directed by Claude Whatham.
In 1973, Sophie Neville was cast as Titty alongside Suzanna Hamilton and Dame Virginia McKenna in the EMI/Theatre Projects movie of 'Swallows & Amazons' (1974). Made before the advent of CGI or digital technology, the young actors lived out Arthur Ransome's epic adventure on location in the British Lake District.
As part of their schoolwork, the children were asked to keep diaries about their time spent filming. Meanwhile, the hip young crew from Elstree Studios were getting to grips with transforming 1970's Windermere in mid-holiday season into a 1929 idyll. They never guessed that their happy 'Woodstock-on-wheels' experience would become such an enduring worldwide success. We have been assure that 'Swallows and Amazons’ (1974) has been screened on television more times than any other British film and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
This heart-warming true life memoir is illustrated with taken at the time by Sophie's family. It delivers a double helping of nostalgia for fans of Arthur Ransome, and the groovy times of the early Seventies.
‘A “treasure trunk” of insights into the making of the film.’ Arthur Ransome Trust
‘I could not put it down! …I think the maps are brilliant, right in character….IT'S LOVELY!!! I’m enjoying it too much.’ Roger Wardale, biographer of Arthur Ransome
‘…It is wonderfully entertaining.’ Richard Pilbrow, Producer, 'Swallows & Amazons'
‘You write so well and have so much covered. I really, really laugh reading this! The missionary bit is superb. Moving. Quietly so.’ Suzanna Hamilton, Mate Susan in 'Swallows & Amazons'
'Sophie has reminded me of one of the happiest times I ever spent on a film. The fun that was had, the friendships forged, the challenges overcome, are all delightfully recalled with a freshness and sense of adventure that has made me smile all over again.’ Dame Virginia McKenna
The Author:
Award-winning author Sophie Neville became inadvertently well known as a child when she starred as Titty in the 1974 feature film of Arthur Ransome's book Swallows and Amazons.
After that sunshiny time she went on to work for the BBC behind the camera on television programmes such as Gerald Durrell's My Family and Other Animals, Doctor Who and Eastenders. Having produced her own Inset series for BBC2 she was busy directing her second drama serial for children when disaster struck in the form of a mystery illness.
Fully recovered, Sophie now lives on the south coast of England with her husband. Every year she disappears for a while to ride in different parts of the world and has also been known to go sailing, but only when the sun shines.

Title: Different Aspects
Genre: Autobiography
Format: Hardback
Signed Only
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
UNLOCK THE MAGIC OF THEATRE THIS CHRISTMAS - GO BEHIND THE CURTAIN WITH WEST END LEGEND, MICHAEL BALL IN HIS FIRST MEMOIR
In 1989, a young Michael Ball landed the lead role in the musical Aspects of Love. It was a moment that changed his life forever. It was the first time he worked with legends of the stage like Andrew Lloyd Webber and Trevor Nunn; the show featured his smash hit song,Love Changes Everything, which rode high in the charts for 15 weeks; it was then, also, that he first met his long-term partner Cathy McGowan and battled back against the stage fright that had threatened his career. Over three decades later, Michael returned to a new production of the same show where he made his name, and with a lifetime's worth of stories to tell.
InDifferent Aspects, Michael takes us backstage inside the making of a West End hit, while also diving back into his memories to share untold anecdotes and explore a glittering career that has made him a household name - from his first stage experiences in Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera, to delighting and shocking his audiences in equal measure in Hairspray and Sweeney Todd, as well as his chart-topping musical success (and some howlers too!). Exploring Michael's life, career and relationships alongside the pitfalls and pratfalls of modern theatre, Different Aspects is the story of a life lived on the stage. There will be laughter, tears and an abundance of heart. There's even some Roger Moore, though, famously, not quite enough.
Take your seats ladies and gentlemen, the lights are dimming, the performance is about to start.

Title: The Paris Muse
Genre: Biography - History
Format: Hardback - First Edition
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
'Living with him was like living at the centre of the universe. It was electrifying and humbling, blissful and destructive, all at the same time.'
Paris, 1936. When Dora Maar, a talented French photographer, painter and poet, is introduced to Pablo Picasso, she is mesmerized by his dark and intense stare. Drawn to his volcanic creativity, it isn't long before she embarks on a passionate relationship with the Spanish artist that sometimes includes sadism and masochism, and ultimately pushes her to the edge.
The Paris Muse is the fictionalized retelling of this disturbing love story, as we follow Dora on her journey of self-discovery and expression. Set in Paris and the French Riviera, where Dora and Pablo spent their holidays with their glamorous artist friends, it provides a fascinating insight into how Picasso was a genius who side-stepped the rules in his human relationships as he did in his art. Much to Dora's torment, he refused to divorce his wife and conducted affairs with Dora's friends. The Spanish Civil War made him depressed and violent, an angst that culminated in his acclaimed painting 'Guernica', which Dora documented as he painted.
As the encroaching darkness suffocates their relationship - a darkness that escalates once the Second World War begins and the Nazis invade the country - Dora has a nervous breakdown and is hospitalized.
Atmospheric, intense and moving, The Paris Muse is an astonishing read that ensures that this talented, often overlooked woman who gave her life to Picasso is no longer a footnote.
The Author:
Louisa Treger is the acclaimed author of four novels, The Lodger (2014), The Dragon Lady (2019) Madwoman (2022), a historical fiction Book of the Year in The Times and The Sunday Times, and a Book of the Month in the Independent, and The Paris Muse (2024). She has written for The Times, The Telegraph, Tatler, BBC History Magazine and English Heritage. Radio appearances include BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking Programme, and BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. Treger has a First Class degree and a PhD in English Literature from UCL, and currently lives in London.

Title: Thorns Lust and Glory The Betrayal of Anne Boleyn.
Genre: History
Format: Hardback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
A queen on the edge.
Anne Boleyn has mesmerised the English public for centuries. Her tragic execution, orchestrated by her own husband, never ceases to intrigue. How did this courtier's daughter become the queen of England, and what was it that really tore apart this illustrious marriage, making her the whore of England, an abandoned woman executed on the scaffold? While many stories of Anne Boleyn's downfall have been told, few have truly traced the origins of her tragic fate.
In Thorns, Lust and Glory, Estelle Paranque takes us back to where it all started: to France, where Anne learned the lessons that would set her on the path to becoming one of England's most infamous queens. At the court of the French king as a resourceful teenage girl, Anne's journey to infamy began, and this landmark biography explores the world that shaped her, and how these loyalties would leave her vulnerable, leading to her ruin at the court of Henry VIII.
A fascinating new perspective on Tudor history's most enduring story, Thorns, Lust and Glory is an unmissable account of a queen on the edge.
The Author:
Estelle is a historian and an Assistant Professor in History. She is the author and editor of five books. Her latest book, Blood, Fire, and Gold has been named "Best History Books of 2022" in History Today, "10 Best History Books of 2022" Smithsonian Magazine, Amazon's Editor Pick for "Best History Books of the Month" (December), Best Books Summer 2022 (The Times), Book of The Week (18 June 2022, The Times).
She completed her PhD in Early Modern History at University College London in 2016. She turned her PhD into a monograph that was published in November 2018 by Palgrave Macmillan Elizabeth I of England Through Valois Eyes: Power, Representation, and Diplomacy in the Reign of the Queen, 1558-1588.
She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in January 2019. She is also a co-convenor of the Tudor and Stuart Seminar at the Institute of Historical Research in London. She has been teaching at university level for the last twelve years and is dedicated to share her passion for history with the next generation. Her research interests are royal, diplomatic, women studies.

Agent Zo was the only woman to reach London from Warsaw during the Second World War as an emissary of the Polish Home Army command, and then in Britain she became the only woman to join the Polish elite Special Forces, known as the 'Silent Unseen'. She was secretly trained in the British countryside, and then the only female member of these SOE affiliated forces to be parachuted back behind enemy lines to Nazi-occupied Poland. There, whilst being hunted by the Gestapo who arrested her entire family, she took a leading role in the Warsaw Uprising and the liberation of Poland.
After the war she was demobbed as one of the most highly decorated women in Polish history. Yet the Soviet-backed post-war Communist regime not only imprisoned her, but also ensured that her remarkable story remained hidden for over forty years. Now, through new archival research and exclusive interviews with people who knew and fought alongside Zo, Clare Mulley brings this forgotten heroine back to life, and also transforms how we see the history of women's agency in the Second World War.
The Author:
CLARE MULLEY is the award-winning author of 'The Woman Who Saved the Children', which won the Daily Mail Biographers' Club Prize, and 'The Spy Who Loved', now optioned by Universal Studios.
Clare's third book, 'The Women Who Flew for Hitler', long-listed for the Historical Writers Association prize, is a dual biography of two extraordinary women at the heart of the Third Reich, but who ended their lives on opposite sides of history.
A regular contributor to TV and radio, Clare recently gave a TEDx talk at Stormont, and lectures in London and Paris on wartime female special agents. She also reviews non-fiction for the Telegraph, Spectator and History Today.
Clare is very nosy, which is helpful for a biographer seeking the truth - or many truths - of people in the dusty files of public archives and between the lines of once private letters. She also loves long walks, chocolate, and her naughty dog, Lola the lurcher.

Title: Rebel women between the wars: Fearless writers and adventurers
Genre: History
Format: Hardback
Signed: Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book:
What did it mean to be a 'rebel woman' in the interwar years? Taking the form of a multiple biography, this book traces the struggles, passions and achievements of a set of 'recklessly determined' women who stopped at nothing to make their mark in the traditionally masculine spheres of mountaineering, politics, engineering and journalism. From the motorist Claudia Parsons to the 'star' reporter Margaret Lane, the mountaineer Dorothy Pilley and the journalist Shiela Grant Duff, the women charted in this book challenged the status quo in all walks of life, alongside writing vivid, eye-witness accounts of their adventures. Recovering their voices across a range of texts including novels, poems, journalism and diaries, Rebel women between the wars reveals their inch by inch gains won through courageous and sometimes controversial and dangerous actions.
The Author:
Dr Sarah Lonsdale has been a journalist for twenty five years, training on the Reading Chronicle before joining the Observer newspaper in 1990 as a general reporter. During her time on the Observer she specialised in stories concerning social justice. She is now freelance and has written for a wide variety of publications including: Observer, Financial Times, Evening Standard, Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph, Daily Mail, Independent on Sunday, Country Homes and Interiors Magazine, Observer Food Monthly, National Geographic Green and the Sunday Times. She was a weekly columnist for the Sunday Telegraph 2006 - 2015 writing about environmental issues, particularly the threat of climate change.
Dr Lonsdale holds a BA (Hons) and MA from the University of Cambridge in Modern and Medieval Languages (French and Italian). She recently completed her PhD, 'The Representation of Journalists and the Newspaper Press in British Literature 1900 - 1939' at the University of Kent. She holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE). She joined City University London in 2013 after six years as a lecturer at the University of Kent, teaching at the School of English and the Centre for Journalism there.

Book Title: A Very Private School
Genre: Royal Historical Biography
Format: Hardback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: Worldwide
The Book:
INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER
"A tour de force." --The Washington Post
In this poignant memoir, Charles Spencer recounts the trauma of being sent away from home at age eight to attend boarding school.
A Very Private School offers a clear-eyed, first-hand account of a culture of cruelty at the school Charles Spencer attended in his youth and provides important insights into an antiquated boarding system. Drawing on the memories of many of his schoolboy contemporaries, as well as his own letters and diaries from the time, he reflects on the hopelessness and abandonment he felt at aged eight, viscerally describing the intense pain of homesickness and the appalling inescapability of it all. Exploring the long-lasting impact of his experiences, Spencer presents a candid reckoning with his past and a reclamation of his childhood. And now, in a new afterword, Spencer reflects on the aftermath of his memoir's publication, including the outpouring of support and solidarity from fellow abuse survivors.
The Author:
Charles Spencer is an author, historian, public speaker, broadcaster and journalist. He is also the 9th Earl Spencer.
Charles Spencer is the author of seven non-fiction books, including three Sunday Times bestsellers: Blenheim, Battle for Europe, which was shortlisted for Historical Book of the Year at the 2005 National Book Awards; Killers of the King – which was the second highest selling History book in the UK in 2014; and The White Ship, the No. 1 bestseller on Amazon.
He has been the keynote speaker at hundreds of events in the UK, India, USA, South Africa, France, Australia, Canada, Spain, Portugal and New Zealand.
As a broadcaster, Charles Spencer worked for NBC News as an on-air correspondent from 1986 to 1995. He has been a reporter for Granada Television, has presented for the History Channel, and has appeared on many occasions as an expert on the BBC.
As a print journalist he has written in the UK for The Guardian, The Independent on Sunday, The Financial Times, The Daily Telegraph, and others. In the United States he has written for Vanity Fair, Veranda, and Nest magazines.
Charles Spencer was educated at Eton, and at Oxford University, where he earned his MA in Modern History.
Most recently, Charles Spencer has enjoyed success with ‘The Rabbit Hole Detectives’, – his new podcast presented alongside Dr Cat Jarman, and the Rev. Richard Coles – which takes listeners on a fascinating dive into the origins of real and symbolic historical objects.

Book One Title: The Anne Boleyn Bible
Genre: British History
Format: Hardback
Book Two Title: I Love The Tudors
Genre: British History
Format: Hardback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: Worldwide
The Book - The Anne Boleyn Bible
Anne Boleyn sells, but she sells in segments; a biography here, a study over there on her guilt and something else yonder concerned with where she lived or what she liked to wear. This book, covering not just her life but her life onscreen, in theatre, on TV and also the impact of the first black actress to play her, is the definitive, all-encompassing story of Anne Boleyn from 1501 (or thereabouts) to 2023. Having examined the ardent fandom of Anne Boleyn for his doctorate, Dr Mickey Mayhew is in a unique position to offer something new to say on this much-discussed ‘tragic’ Tudor queen and is not afraid to tackle some of the less palatable aspects of her life.
Also, this book is the first to examine with authenticity the reality of Anne’s relationship with the most important man in her life, the man whose name she repeated in comfort whilst facing the Swordsman of Calais on the scaffold, having spent her life promulgating his doctrine; Jesus Christ himself. As for the aforementioned executioner, Dr Mayhew’s research in Calais and Saint-Omer can now lift a lid on a few of the particulars of this elusive and yet essential figure of Anne Boleyn mythos; and yes, now he even has a name as well.
The Anne Boleyn Bible also offers a straightforward retelling of Anne’s actual historical life, albeit one that outlines an entirely fresh and empowering perspective on her rise to prominence; this is followed by a series of considered arguments on the ‘for’ and ‘against’ in regard to her guilt & execution; then her entry into popular culture.
The Book: I Love The Tudors
Did you know that Henry VIII was too fat to walk down the stairs? That Mary Queen of Scots was almost killed by an earthquake at Sheffield Castle? Or that Elizabeth I wore poisonous makeup? This book, containing 400 fantastic facts about the Tudor era and more than 100 illustrations, will delight Tudor fans everywhere!
The Author:
Lifelong Londoner Mickey Mayhew has a PhD concerning the online cult surrounding the tragic queens Anne Boleyn and Mary Queen of Scots. He is co-author of three books relating to Jack the Ripper, published by The History Press. His first non-fiction work, The Little Book of Mary Queen of Scots, was also published by The History Press in January 2015; I Love the Tudors, by Pitkin Publishing, arrived in 2016. He has a semi-regular column in the journal of The Whitechapel Society and was previously a freelance film and theatre reviewer for various London lifestyle magazines. Through 2018/2020 he worked as an assistant researcher on several research projects for London South Bank University. Rasputin and his Russian Queen is his third book for Pen and Sword, following the release of House of Tudor and Imprisoning Mary Queen of Scots.

Title: Victoria & Abdul
Genre: History/Biography
Format: Paperback
Signed: Yes, dedication is available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
The tall, handsome Abdul Karim was just twenty-four years old when he arrived in England from Agra to wait at tables during Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. An assistant clerk at Agra Central Jail, he suddenly found himself a personal attendant to the Empress of India herself. Within a year, he was established as a powerful figure at court, becoming the queen's teacher, or Munshi, and instructing her in Urdu and Indian affairs. Devastated by the death of John Brown, her Scottish gillie, the queen had at last found his replacement. But her intense and controversial relationship with the Munshi led to a near-revolt in the royal household. Victoria & Abdul examines how a young Indian Muslim came to play a central role at the heart of the Empire, and his influence over the queen at a time when independence movements in the sub-continent were growing in force. Yet, at its heart, it is a tender love story between an ordinary Indian and his elderly queen, a relationship that survived the best attempts to destroy it.
The Author:
Shrabani Basu is an author and a journalist. She was born in Kolkata and grew up in Dhaka, Kathmandu and Delhi. Her books include Victoria & Abdul: The Extraordinary True Story of the Queen's Closest Confidant, now a major motion picture, Spy Princess: The Life of Noor Inayat Khan and For King and Another Country: Indian Soldiers on the Western Front, 1914-18. In 2010, she set up the Noor Inayat Khan Memorial Trust and campaigned for a memorial for the Second World War heroine, which was unveiled by Princess Anne in London in November 2012.

Title: Limitless
Genre: Biography
Format: Hardback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
'What surprised me was how entirely serene I felt. I was weightless, no forces exerting themselves on my body. To my left was the Space Station. Below me, gradually going into shadow, was the Earth. And over my right shoulder was the universe.'
In fascinating and personal detail, and drawing on exclusive diaries and audio recordings from his mission, astronaut Tim Peake takes readers closer than ever before to experience what life in space is really like: the sights, the smells, the fear, the sacrifice, the exhilaration and the deep and abiding wonder of the view.
Warm, inspiring and often funny, Tim also charts his surprising road to becoming an astronaut, from a shy and unassuming boy from Chichester who had a passion for flight, to a young British Army officer, Apache helicopter pilot, flight instructor and test pilot who served around the world. Tim's extensive eighteen-year career in the Army included the command of a platoon of soldiers in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, deployment in Bosnia, and operations in Afghanistan.
Full of life lessons for readers of all ages, Limitless is the story of how ordinary can become extraordinary.
The Author:
Tim is a former Apache pilot, flight instructor, test pilot and current European Space Agency astronaut. In 2015, Tim became the first British ESA astronaut to work on board the International Space Station and to conduct a spacewalk.
A veteran of eighteen years’ military service, Tim has flown over 3,000 hours on multiple aircraft types, graduating top of his class from the prestigious Empire Test Pilot's School. He commanded a platoon of soldiers in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and deployed on operations to Bosnia and Afghanistan.
Following a year-long selection process, Tim was chosen from over 8000 applicants to be one of six new astronauts as part of the European Astronaut Corps. During astronaut training he spent seven days living in a cave and twelve days living underwater.
Tim's six month mission 'Principia' to the ISS inspired a nation, engaging with more than 2 million students as part of a hugely successful outreach programme. Whilst in space, he conducted over 250 scientific experiments, oversaw an emergency spacewalk and also ran the 2016 London marathon.
Tim’s autobiography Limitless, tells the often very amusing story of how a short, ginger lad with a passion for flight and all things outdoors went from Soldier, Pilot, Parent to Astronaut.
Now back on Earth Tim continues to work to promote opportunities for young people as an ambassador for STEM education, The Prince’s Trust and The Scout Association.
He is the best selling author of Hello is this Planet Earth?, Ask an Astronaut and The Astronaut Selection Test Book. The proceeds from which were donated to support the work of The Prince’s Trust (https://www.princes-trust.org.uk/ ).

Book Title: From the Mill to Monte Carlo
Genre: Non fiction/history/genealogy
Format: Hardback
Signed: Yes
Bids Accepted: UK only
The Book:
This is the story of a man who went from Yorkshire mill worker to Monte Carlo millionaire. Amongst the men ‘who broke the bank at Monte Carlo’, Joseph Hobson Jagger is unique. He is the only one known to have devised an infallible and completely legal system to defeat the odds at roulette and win a fortune. But he was not what might be expected. He wasn’t a gentleman or an aristocrat, he wasn’t a professional gambler, he was a Yorkshire textile worker who had laboured in the Victorian mills of Bradford since childhood. What led a man like this to travel nearly a thousand miles to the exclusive world of the Riviera when most people lived and died within a few miles of where they were born? The trains that took him there were still new and dangerous, he did not speak French and had never left the north of England. His motivation was strong. Joseph, his wife and four children, the youngest of whom was only two, faced a situation so grave that their only escape seemed to be his desperate gamble on the roulette tables of Monte Carlo. Today Jagger’s legacy is felt in casinos worldwide and yet he is virtually unknown. Anne Fletcher is his great-great-great niece and in this true-life detective story she uncovers how he was able to win a fortune, what happened to his millions and why Jagger should now be regarded as the real ‘man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo’.
The Author:
Anne Fletcher read history at Oxford University. She has a successful career in heritage and has worked at some of the most exciting historic sites in the country including Hampton Court Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Bletchley Park and Tower Bridge. Her most recent book is Widows of the Ice, the true story of the women widowed bt Scott's fatal Antarctic expedition.
Anne is the great-great-great niece of Joseph Hobson Jagger, ‘the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo’ and the subject of her first book From the Mill to Monte Carlo. Her search for his story started with only a photograph, a newspaper article and the lyrics of the famous song.

Title: The Real Leonardo Da Vinci
Genre: Historical Biography
Format: Hardback
Signed: Yes, dedication is available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
Leonardo Da Vinci was left-handed.
That’s probably why he wrote backwards from right to left to avoid smudging ink on his hand as he made notes on his latest works and visionary discoveries.
Words could only be read with the help of a mirror making it taxing for anyone but himself to quickly decode his handwriting.
There are many theories exploring the reason why he kept using “mirror writing” in all his manuscripts.
Some historians say that he was trying to make it more challenging for people to steal his ideas while others claim that it was a clever attempt to hide scientific findings from the intolerant Roman Catholic Church of the Renaissance.
Whatever the logic behind this, the constant association with mirror writing and studies on the human body anatomy, made him one of the most enigmatic figures of his and then of our century. This biography investigates Leonardo and his different roles from anatomist to inventor, architect, painter, rumoured to be templar and scientific pioneer.
Despite leaving several of his works incomplete, Leonardo managed to influence generations of artists and still today remains a highly regarded figure in both the artistic and scientific sector.
The Author:
Rose Sgueglia is a writer, journalist and marketing consultant based in Cardiff. She is the founder of Miss Squiggles, a digital magazine and content agency. Her work has been published in different publications including GQ, La Repubblica, Yahoo and WI Life (a magazine for members of The Women’s Institute). She holds a BA in Journalism, Film and Media and a Post Graduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism from Cardiff University. She is currently working on her PhD in Media Studies with a research project on the impact material culture and audio-visual material has had on Chanel.

Title: This Whiteness of Swans: The Surface and the Deep: Story of Anna of Cleves
Genre: Biography - History
Format: Hardback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
Swan Castle, Cleves, 1521
Nestled deep in a land rich in myth and fairy-tale, within the changing politics and religion of the Holy Roman Empire, a young girl grows to adulthood, watching war and faith tear the world she knows asunder.
Sheltered within the court of women in which she and her sisters live, Anna of Cleves may be protected, but she is not in ignorance of the world outside her castle walls, and when the Tudor King of England begins to cast his eye upon Cleves, seeking a fourth wife, she is only too aware of the peril that may be placed upon her life, as the ring is slipped upon her finger.
This Whiteness of Swans is Book One of The Surface and the Deep: Story of Anna of Cleves, by G. Lawrence.
The author's thanks are due to Julia Gibbs, proof reader of this work of fiction, and Giusy D'Anna, the cover artist.
The Author:
I am an independently published author, and proud to be so. Living in a little cottage in Wales in the UK, I love where I live as much as I love to write.
The age of the Tudors has been an obsession for me since I was a child, and many of my upcoming books will centre on that time, but I also pen the odd dystopian fiction or historical fiction from other time periods. I will be releasing all my titles on amazon, for kindle, paper and hard back, and soon to come, audio books!
I studied Literature (with a capital L) at University and usually have twenty or more books I'm currently reading. Reading and writing are about mood for me, and I haven't found a genre I didn't enjoy something about so far...

Title: Getting Away With Murder
Genre: Autobiography - Memoir
Format: Hardback
Signed - Dedication is Available (Lynda will also write a sentence from the book on the title page, date and sign it)
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
DETECTIVE JANE TENNISON'S POLICE CAREER HANGS IN THE BALANCE: A
SINGLE STEP FROM GLORY - OR RUIN.
While she has elbowed her way into an elite team investigating non-domestic
murders, there is nothing elite about her first assignments: a missing teenager cold
case and an apparent suicide Tennison suspects is, in fact, murder.
But as she uncovers explosive evidence, Tennison's new colleagues watch like
vultures circling prey. And, one by one, the cases no one else wanted are taken
from her - and the glory along with them.
Now Tennison has had enough: of the rampant sexism, snide remarks and
undermining. It's time to take what is rightfully hers from those who have held her
back.
She just has to do what she does best: find her prime suspect . .

Title: WHY I BECAME AN X TROOP COMMANDO
Genre: Biography
Format: Paperback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
A fascinating and moving biography of Colin Anson, the German refugee who became an elite British commando
Born in Germany in 1922, Colin Anson’s (Claus Ascher) childhood was marked by the trials of Nazism. His father was arrested by the Gestapo in 1937 and transported to Dachau, where he died shortly after. Colin, aged just 17, escaped to Britain in the Kindertransport. As soon as he was old enough, Colin volunteered in the Pioneer Corps. Then, in 1942, he was recruited for the elite commando unit X-Troop.
Colin took part in the invasions of Sicily and Italy in 1943, where he sustained a near-fatal injury. But just months later, he returned to duty. He fought in the Yugoslav islands, became the first Allied soldier to liberate Corfu, and was stationed in post-war Frankfurt.
In this unique biography, Helen Fry traces the remarkable story of Colin’s life. Drawing on extensive interviews, Fry recounts his actions in X-Troop and beyond in his own words—and sheds new light on the experience of refugees in the British forces.
The Author:
Helen has authored and edited over 25 books covering the social history of the Second World War, including British Intelligence and the secret war, espionage and spies, and MI9 escape and evasion.
She is the foremost authority on the 'secret listeners' who worked at special eavesdropping sites operated by British Intelligence during WWII. Her groundbreaking research and extensive media coverage have shed light on one of the greatest intelligence deceptions of the war: the bugging of Hitler’s generals at Trent Park in North London, and thousands of prisoners of war at Latimer House and Wilton Park in Buckinghamshire.
Helen is the official biographer of MI6 spymaster, Colonel Thomas Joseph Kendrick. She has also extensively written about the 10,000 Germans who fought for Britain during WWII.
Thanks to her expertise, Helen has appeared in a number of documentaries, including David Jason’s Secret Service (Channel 5), Spying on Hitler's Army (Channel 4), and Secrets of the Spies (Britbox). She has provided advisory services for TV and drama, something that she particularly enjoys. Helen has covered the major D-Day commemorations in live BBC broadcasts from Normandy, and she regularly appears in media interviews and podcasts.
Helen is an ambassador for the National Centre for Military Intelligence (NCMI) and serves as a trustee of both the Friends of the Intelligence Corps Museum and the Medmenham Collection. She works in London.
Helen is a recent recipient of the Lifetime Contribution Award for Jewish Military History and Education, awarded by The Jewish Military Association (AJEX).

Title: Anne Neville: Queen and Wife of Richard III
Genre: Biography
Format: Hardcover
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
Daughter, Wife, Princess, Widow and Queen: Anne Neville had many faces. Shakespeare presents her to us as a woman consumed with rage, bitterness and grief. He has her cursing the killer of her husband and father, before marrying him and condemning herself to despair. She rages, screams and weeps but ultimately she is shown as nothing more than a passive victim of the men who used and exploited her. This could not be further from the truth. Born into one of the most powerful dynasties in medieval England, Anne knew her worth, and her power. She was a great survivor escaping the tide of blood that consumed England not just alive but emerging with a crown on her head. Tragedy would untimely engulf her, the death of her son ended all her hopes for a lasting legacy and her premature death was subject to rumour and speculation. But there is undoubtedly more to Anne than her marriage and her end. She is fascinating, elusive, a powerbroker and very much her father’s daughter. This is Anne’s story.
The Author:
Rebecca Batley is an archaeologist and historian, with a particular interest in women’s history. Her work can be found in numerous publications including New Scientist, Gay and Lesbian Review and AHM. She regularly writes for Ancient Origins and has worked for, amongst others, MOLA and Wessex Archaeology.

The Book;

Title: Ann Walker: The Life and Death of Gentleman Jack's Wife
Genre: Biography
Format: Hardcover
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
Lesbian. Lover. Lunatic. These are just some of the words usually used to describe Ann Walker, the oft overlooked wife of Anne Lister, better known by some as Gentleman Jack. Ann was one half of England’s first same-sex marriage and yet the rainbow plaque that marks their historic union on the wall of the Holy Trinity Church, York, features Ann’s name in a font only half the size of her wife’s. Her story has been long forgotten. Born into wealth and privilege Ann was one of the most eligible heiresses in 19th century Yorkshire and the question on everyone’s lips in 1830’s Halifax was why a respectable young heiress, with property, fortune and connection risked everything, even her freedom, to become entangled with the notorious Gentleman Jack? The answer to this question reveals a woman of immense courage, faith, and determination, but her voice has remained silent...until now. Within the depths of Ann’s diary - discovered by Diane Halford in 2020 - the answers to some of the above questions can be found, as can insight into Ann as an independent woman. The life of Ann is worthy of its own narrative and it is time for Ann to step out of the shadow of Gentleman Jack and tell her own story.

Title: Our Daily Bread
Genre: Biography - Lifestyle
Format: Hardback
Dedication Available: YES
Postage & Packaging: Free
Bids Accepted UK Only
The Book:
‘No one cares, that’s the real pandemic’
A warmly funny, intensely moving and startlingly personal account of the lives of an urban parish priest and his parishioners.
Father Alex Frost was not always a man of the cloth. He found his calling while running an Argos store in his native Burnley, moonlighting as a stand-up comedian and die-hard fan of The Clarets and Depeche Mode.
But having achieved his profession, Fr Alex quickly recognised the 17,000 inhabitants of his new parish were in dire need of help. Burnley is typical of many towns across Britain: a place of run-down council estates, severe poverty litter, crime and drugs, but also a place where the sacred sits alongside the secular in an intimate and personal way. And so it was that he found himself running a food bank from a car park, helping the desperate amid his flock as the pandemic raged.
Fr Alex’s down-to-earth style of ministry struck a chord with people of all faiths, cultures and class at a time when the divide between rich and poor is widening cataclysmically. But amid the tragedy, addiction, appalling loss, illness and neglect, there also lies hope, joy and moments of comedy. Our Daily Bread is as much the story of the rich cast of characters that cross the threshold of any church as it is our vicar’s. Through them it shows the continued relevance of the church for those in peril: the poor and the marginalised.
This heartfelt and moving book seeks to give a voice to the voiceless, charting the tragedy and pain, humour and hope which are ever-present in his community. It is ultimately about modern poverty – and how we all can, and should, espouse Christian virtues of love, kindness, tolerance.
The Author:
Fr Alex Frost is the vicar of St Matthew’s the Apostle, Burnley, where he grew up. He describes himself as the ‘fundamentally unemployable’ host of The God Cast, a podcast devoted to issues of faith and spirituality, which has featured celebrities such as Eamonn Holmes, Alastair Campbell, Edwina Currie, Dom Joly, George Galloway, Anthea Turner and football legend Lou Macari. Ordained in 2012 after a mixed career working as a football referee, manager at Argos and a stand-up comic, Fr Alex was recently appointed to the General Synod for Blackburn Diocese. He is married and has three children.
Fr Alex made headlines when he featured in a 2021 BBC documentary The Cost of Covid – One Year On, which has been viewed over 12 million times since it was aired. Running a food bank from a car park in Burnley, helping the desperate amid his flock as the pandemic raged, Fr Alex’s down-to-earth style of ministry struck a chord with people of all faiths, cultures and classes across the UK in a time when the divide between rich and poor widens cataclysmically. The Church of England priest, who sports tattoos of his favourite band Depeche Mode, has become the last bastion of support for many in the aftermath of austerity measures, Government cuts and Covid 19 upon a community already ravaged by poverty, addiction and neglect. ‘No-one cares, that is the real pandemic,’ Fr Alex says about his 17,000 parishioners whose souls he has care of at St Matthew’s, yards from the estates which have been abandoned and forgotten.

Book Title: The Life and Lies of Charles Dickens
Genre: Biography
Format: Paperback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book:
Think you already know the story of Charles Dickens' life? Think again.
Almost everything you're familiar with was first mentioned in an authorised biography written by Dickens' close friend John Forster 150 years ago. It's the version of events that Dickens himself chose to make public, and newly accessible archives reveal that it's crammed with gaps, inconsistencies, and outright lies.
There's the sister whose existence Dickens kept secret and the Jewish relations whose faith he strove to conceal. There's plagiarism, fraud, and suicide.
And that's only for starters.
Helena Kelly, author of the acclaimed Jane Austen, the Secret Radical, retells Dickens' story from his childhood to his deathbed, uncovers the truths he tried to keep hidden, and offers a fresh - and deeply troubling - perspective on the man who remains one of Britain's best-known novelists.
You won't be able to look at him - or his work - in the same way again.
The Author:
Dr. Helena Kelly is a scholar and author known for her work on notable literary figures. She holds a doctorate in English Literature from the University of Oxford and has taught there as well.
Dr. Kelly has written several acclaimed books, including Jane Austen, the Secret Radical and The Life and Lies of Charles Dickens. Currently, she is a visiting scholar at the Oxford Centre for Life Writing
