Kerry Gibb is the author of the It’s A Kid’s Life series. Inspired by her four sons, Kerry had a light bulb moment one night and decided to write a book that would have them laughing out loud. This quickly grew into a whole series of five books, the third of which, Double Digits, was a finalist in the IAN Book of the Year Awards in 2018.
Thousands and thousands of children have now read these books and Kerry regularly visits schools to talk about her experience as an author and run creative writing workshops as she fulfils her dream of inspiring children and bringing them laughter through her books.
Graduating from the University of Sussex in 1999, with an Hons degree in Social Psychology, Kerry took a keen interest in the psychological development of children. This combined with experiencing life through the eyes of her own four sons undoubtedly ignited the spark that became It’s A Kid’s Life.
Kerry likes the simple things in life, and lives by the philosophy – be kind, be loving, and be happy.

I was born in Brighton in 1966. After leaving school I trained as an illustrator, and worked for many years providing cartoons and illustrations for the Horrible Histories and Murderous Maths books. My first novel, the epic Mortal Engines, was published in 2001. It went on to win the Smarties and Blue Peter prizes, and a movie, directed by Christian Rivers and produced by Peter Jackson, was released in 2018.
Mortal Engines was followed by three sequels ‐ Predator′s Gold, Infernal Devices, and A Darkling Plain ‐ and three prequels; Fever Crumb, A Web of Air, and Scrivener′s Moon. A collection of related short stories, Night Flights, with illustrations by Ian McQue, was published in 2018, along with The Illustrated World of Mortal Engines, co-written with Jeremy Levett and featuring artwork by an array of illustrators.
Here Lies Arthur, my take on the Arthurian legends, won the Carnegie Medal, and I′m also the author of the Goblins trilogy of comic fantasy stories and the space fantasy Larklight (illustrated by David Wyatt).
In 2013 I joined forces with illustrator Sarah McIntyre to create Oliver and the Seawigs, the first in a series of funny, highly-illustrated adventure stories which continued with Cakes in Space, Pugs of the Frozen North, Jinks and O′Hare Funfair Repair, and the activity book Pug-A-Doodle-Do. Their latest books together are the Roly Poly Flying Pony series: The Legend of Kevin, Kevin′s Great Escape, Kevin and the Biscuit Bandit and Kevin vs the Unicorns.

Drawing has always been a passion for Sharon since she was very young and it was her dream to be an illustrator from the age of 15. During her time at the Liverpool John Moore’s University where she studied for a BA in Graphic Design, she felt drawn down the route of children’s book illustration, but it wasn’t until she embarked on the MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art that her dream came true.
Since graduating from CSA, she has written and illustrated several picture books with Alison Green Books, Scholastic Uk, as well as illustrating for various fiction books.
Her most recent project is a new series called Animal Explorers, published by Alison Green Books, where different animal characters follow their dreams and go on adventures exploring different places. The first one features a polar bear called Lola who explores the Amazon Rainforest as a Plant Hunter and, in the second book, published in April this year, a tiger called Toby explores the depths of the Deep Sea.
She works mainly from her home studio, but also enjoys taking her sketchbook outside sometimes to draw from life both for pleasure and for building up reference material. She particularly loves drawing trees and, of course, animals.

The magnificent Jennie Maizels was born to be an artist – and an extraordinarily enterprising one. Her artist parents met at Chelsea School of Art and now run the art magazine, Raw Vision.
After graduation from Central St Martins School of Art, Jennie's first commission was to design and make window displays at Harvey Nichols' Knightsbridge store for London Fashion Week. As a result, she was asked to create window displays for The Body Shop and Dillons Bookstores nationwide.
Even when studying illustration, Jennie enjoyed working in 3-D, so making pop-up books was a natural progression. Her 16-year collaboration with renowned children's author Kate Perry, which sadly ended with Kate's death in 2007, was impressively fruitful. The eight books they produced together have sold over two million copies worldwide. The Great Grammar Book was nominated for Children's Book of the Year 1999 and The Global Garden won the Royal Society's Junior Science Book Prize in 2006. Jennie wrote, designed and illustrated the best-selling and award-winning Pop-Up London and Pop-Up New York as well as collaborating with The Reduced Shakespeare Company on Pop-Up Shakespeare.
In 2015, Jennie came up with a revolutionary way for people to learn how to draw and paint (in Jennie's words "Literally like following a recipe") and launched Sketchbook Club online. Its success has been featured in The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Simple Things magazine, to which Jennie will soon contribute regularly.
On top of all this, Jennie is helping to develop the next generation of creatives, lecturing part-time in Illustration and Graphic Arts at Southampton University.

Lucie Bee is a Children’s Illustrator based in Yorkshire, England. As a child, Lucie was rarely seen without a pencil in hand, doodling quietly for hours at a time. After graduating with a BA in Illustration from the University of Lincoln, she took the leap in 2021 to turn her dream of becoming a professional Illustrator into a reality and hasn’t looked back. When she isn’t painting at her desk, you can find her wandering through woodland with her two small children in tow.
