BDMLR Cornwall Seal Hospital auction 2025

We are fundraising for the amazing BDMLR Cornwall Seal Hospital! This hospital was built during the pandemic and opened in September 2021. It provides a specialist hospital facility whenever the south west's larger rehabilitation centres are at full capacity, acting as an essential ICU and overflow unit providing temporary emergency care for sick and injured seal pups. When available, they move on to the larger facilities to complete their rehabilitation in their outdoor pools and prepare for release.

Each pup's care is under direct supervision of veterinary surgeons experienced with seals and supported by the fantastic community of our dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer Marine Mammal Medics, who work tirelessly to ensure the pups are kept comfortable, fed and clean.

This winter just over 75 pups have passed through the hospital with the vast majority making it through to further rehabilitation and release, hopefully going on to survive and strengthen the hugely important and globally significant grey seal population, which is one of the rarer seal species in the world! We are very lucky in the UK to be one of their strongholds, home to around one third of the world population that are found only in the North Atlantic Ocean and Baltic Sea, which stands around 350,000 - comparable to the population of Coventry!

Funds raised will go directly to this hospital, enabling this amazing facility to continue its massively important work supporting our seal pups, as well as helping to raise awareness of issues that affect them and what we can do to better conserve them from the many human and natural threats they face.

When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
