SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885.
Funds raised through this auction will enable SSAFA to provide direct emotional, practical and financial support to those currently serving (both regulars and reserves), to veterans from the Second World War and to those who have served in more recent conflicts, as well as their families.
In 2019, SSAFAs volunteers and employees helped more than 85,000 people in need. In 2020 SSAFA in London has received over 3,000 requests for help and taken on over 500 cases.
The pandemic is fuelling a trend of job loss, benefit delay and debt, all of which means that a greater number of veterans and their families are looking to SSAFA for its help.
By taking part in this auction you will enable SSAFA to support its volunteers and to act immediately by providing food vouchers, essential clothing, crisis accommodation, and treatment for substance misuse.
SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. It is there for that person – at any time, in any way needed, for as long as needed.
The proceeds from this auction will benefit both SSAFA Central London branch and SSAFA nationally.

Extraordinary Women: Images of Courage, Endurance and Defiance
A signed and dedicated copy of 'Extraordinary Women' by award winning photographer Tom Stoddart. The book has a foreword by movie director and humanitarian Angelina Jolie and pays homage to the defiant and courageous women that Tom has photographed over his fifty year career.
Stoddart writes, "Ordinary women are capable of extraordinary things. When a crisis engulfs a community it’s the women who turn to face the challenges head on. Their love of family and never surrender attitude drives them on to survive the miserable cruelty of conflicts, political persecution, natural disasters and health emergencies."

Of all the swords used by the British Armed Forces and the Commonwealth, the Trooper's sword of the Household Cavalry is undoubtedly the finest. It is truly a Knight’s sword (mounted warrior).
This pattern first came into service in 1892 after much debate on whether cutting or thrusting should be the priority in design, which was never full resolved.
The sword is heavy, single edged with a chased and pierced bowl and the initials HC intertwined carrying the Sovereign’s crown. The wooden grip is covered with fish skin and bound with silver plated copper wire.
The blade can be etched with the recipient’s name, armorial arms, mottos and even an important ancestor’s name or indeed that of a son or daughter.
The recipient may also have the privilege of visiting the Pooley Sword workshops at Shoreham to see their blade being either designed, etched, polished or mounted.
This sword is being offered by kind permission of Major General C J Ghika CBE, General Officer Commanding London District and Major General Commanding the Household Division
Kindly donated by Pooley Sword Ltd

Up for offer is a trip to Stonehenge in a 1930s open- cockpit Tiger Moth. The flight will start from a private strip near Salisbury and take the lucky winner out towards Salisbury Plain, passing some long- forgotten WW1 and WW2 airfields on the way. Did you know, for example, that Spitfires were built in Salisbury and test- flown from High Post? Or that there used to be a WW1 airfield beside Stonehenge and that the commandant there seriously suggested blowing up the stones because he considered them a hazard to aviation! These and other gems you can hear about and see during an unforgettable flight from Old Sarum.
And finally, if you feel strong enough, you can see the world from upside down with a loop or two.
David Wood has been flying for over 40 years and now works as a part-time flying instructor. He holds a commercial pilot's licence, a flight instructor rating and is a CAA flight examiner. One of his great loves is flying his vintage Tiger Moth, a pre-war aeroplane designed as a basic trainer for the RAF. The Tiger Moth is a beautiful and iconic aeroplane, a type upon which countless thousands of young men learned to fly during the Second World War.
The Tiger Moth he owns was built in 1933 and is one of the very first Tiger Moths built by the de Havilland factory at Hatfield.

Among Adam Architecture's most admired work are its country houses, and 19 of these houses are the focus of this new book, written by architectural historian Jeremy Musson.
The book begins with two forewords, with Clive Aslet and Calder Loth offering their interpretations of the ideal country house from a British and an American perspective respectively. The introduction provides an overview of the rich and varied tradition of the English country house, from the medieval manor house to houses of the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, and the Classically inspired designs of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries through to the architecture of the Gothic Revival and then the Arts and Crafts Movement. Architects associated with the country house throughout the ages include, among others, John Vanburgh, William Chambers, Robert Adam, John Nash and Sir Edwin Lutyens.

James Hart Dyke has accompanied HRH The Prince of Wales as the official artist on a number of royal tours (1998,1999,2007,2008).
‘There is something of the intrepid explorer in him and his pictures reflect an innate determination and vitality.‘ HRH The Prince of Wales 2003
James has been 'artist in residence' for The British Secret Intelligence Service, commissioned by it to make a set of paintings to mark their centenary (2009).
Embedded with the British Forces in Baghdad and Afghanistan (2006, 2007), James has also worked as artist mentor with wounded soldiers.
James has exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery and has had numerous solo exhibitions over the last 20 years exhibiting work from expeditions to the Himalayas, Atlas Mountains, and most recently Patagonia.
Inspired at the age of 8 by a John Constable oil painting, James' love of landscape has always been central to his work. James gravitates to spatially dramatic locations such as remote mountain ranges, often enduring physically demanding expeditions. He has a strong interest in the Early Romantic Movement which played a large part in the popularisation of the Alps and which lead to the notion of the ‘sublime.’
Although James’s paintings are still very much inspired by the studies of John Constable, his work is also influenced by Abstract Expressionist, a movement which focused on paint texture and composition.
Geoffrey's Bar is gouache and pastel on paper. Unframed it is 29cm x 41cm. Framed it is 56cm X 88cm.

A signed, limited edition print (1 of only 10), by Liza Butterworth. The print is mounted and framed.
The framed print is 51cm x 64cm.

1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another
member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new
maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
