The Abbots Worthy beat on the River Itchen is about a third of a mile with single and double bank fishing. It is the most challenging of our pieces of water for casting and stalking, as it is clear all year round with good aquatic fly life providing plenty of hatches, including Iron Blue and Large Dark Olive in good numbers and even the rare Turkey Brown. Fish for wild Brown Trout and Sea Trout on the lovely river Ellen in Cumbria. The Ellen rises in the fells above Uldale in North Cumbria and after a short run, enters the Solway Firth at Maryport. Home to Brownies, Sea Trout and the occasional Salmon, it is a spate river and fishes best for migratory fish during the spate. Browns are present all season, but generally fishing is best for these in April and May as the bankside vegetation can present challenges for the less experienced angler.

An opportunity to fish for two rods for two days / nights for Salmon and Sea Trout on the Plas Madoc beat of the river Conwy in North Wales. The river Conwy is traditionally a spate river with fresh water required to bring fish into the upper reaches of the system. The Plas Madoc Beat is situated at the top of the mean tidal point, which means that fish move into the beat with the tides and therefore offer opportunities to target fresh fish on a daily basis. The Plas Madoc beat is two miles long with numerous pools, which hold Salmon and Sea Trout at various heights of water and is delight to fish with the fly although any legal methods are permitted. The Plas Madoc Beat enjoys the benefit of a fishing hut on the banks of the river in addition there are also toilet facilities available. The banks are easily accessed and the bed of the river is generally composed of gravel, which affords easy wading when it is necessary. The fishing is typically undertaken from a gravel bed with the fly cast towards a deeper channel on the far bank of the river, which in many parts is tree lined. Takes generally occur as the fly passes across the drop off into the deeper channel.

Fishing is restricted to the months April, May, June, July and August. There are few angling restrictions with any legal method allowed but it would be an opportunity missed not to cast a fly on this beat as there is a lot of good "fly water" to be enjoyed. Normal game fishing etiquette is expected as is a respect for the countryside and other people who are present at the fishery. Dogs are not allowed on the beat due to the nature of the farming carried out on the surrounding fields. The Plas Madoc Beat can be affected by large tides at times, therefore care needs to be taken when planning your trip in addition to the usual considerations such as water height, moon phase, weather etc. Help will be supplied to ensure that the successful bidder will be on the water at the most suitable times for their target quarry.

It is a very attractive and scenic river divided into two beats which are upstream and downstream of a convenient car park. The lower beat is well maintained and provides very accessible fishing from the bank, or with minimal wading, while the upper beat is a little wilder but just as productive. Although a small river it holds excellent stocks of wild brown and wild rainbow trout providing dry-fly and nymph fishing of the highest quality. The river also enjoys an excellent mayfly hatch. The river is best fished with smaller lighter tackle with rods of 7’ to 8’ rated for #3/4 lines being ideal. The winning bidder can choose any date during the season which is agreeable with the club.

The club operates a catch and release policy. Only flies which fit in with the nature of the fishing are allowed with no large gaudy flies or lures. A mayfly imitation is accepted.

The river Bela is in NW Lancashire / SE Cumbria. It is not stocked and can be fished for brown trout, sea trout & salmon. It is a fly only beat with total catch & return.
