Welcome to the Sheriffs' Ball 2019 online auction
Alderman & Sheriff Vincent Keaveny and Sheriff The Hon Elizabeth Green are hosting the fourth annual Sheriffs' Ball in aid of The Lord Mayor's Appeal on Friday 20 September 2019 in the grand surroundings of Guildhall.
We have some fantastic lots on offer in the auction so please help us to raise as much as possible for our beneficiary charities: Place2Be, OnSide Youth Zones and Samaritans.
You can bid online on this page from midday on 6 September until 5.00pm on 19 September. The highest bids from the online auction, and any maximum bids placed, will then be carried through to the live silent auction at the Ball on 20 September. So even if you are not able to attend the event, please do place a proxy (maximum) bid on this page. Your maximum bid will then be carried through to the live silent auction and we will let you know after the event has ended if you have been successful.
For more details on how to bid online, please click on the Auction Guide below.
If you do not wish to bid, but would like to make a donation, please click on the Donation tab at the top right of the auction page.
Good luck and thank you so much for supporting the Sheriffs' Ball.

A superb case of white burgundy from Domaine Michel Caillot. The Caillot estate was founded in 1961 by Roger Caillot, the father of current farmer and owner Michel. The vineyard covers over 13 hectares with vines aged 40 years old on average. Since the 1980s the estate has focused on organic farming. Domaine Caillot's Mersault Clos du Cromin 2012 is a beautifully balanced wine with a sustained yellow visual aspect combining aromas of lemon zest, spice and vanilla toast. The wine is full bodied with a long, rich finish. Contains 12 bottles of 75cl.

This breath-taking experience offers one person the opportunity to view southern England from a unique perspective in the air from your choice of either a Harvard or an open cockpit biplane Tiger Moth aircraft. Taking off from either near Maidenhead, Berkshire or Farnham, Surrey, your 30 minute flight will take in key sights and landmarks with plenty of chances to take photographs of the view. Date by arrangement, valid for one year, weather dependent and subject to terms & conditions. A briefing and headset provided, warm comfortable clothing and non-heels advised.
About the Harvard
The Harvard was introduced as an advanced trainer in WW2 as pilots were being lost in advancing from the Tiger Moth to the Spitfire and Hurricane. The Harvard was developed from the American Texan with the addition of a Spitfire style control column This example was built by Noorduyn Aviation in Canada and taken on charge by the RAF in 1943. During her life the aircraft was part of the Strathallan Museum collection and also owned by the Old Flying Machine Company, where she was a camera ship amongst the dogfights for the TV series "Piece of Cake". The Harvard has a very distinctive sound as the 600hp Wasp radial drives the tips of the propeller supersonic, creating the unique noise.
About the Tiger Moth
The Tiger Moth was built by Morris Motors in Cowley in 1943 and taken on charge by the RAF in January 1944. She was used for flight training including for glider pilots being trained for the D Day invasion. After service with the RAF and being stored for a period, she appeared on the civil register and those who have operated her have included the Luton Aero Club. The Tiger Moth provides the experience of open cockpit vintage biplane flying, cruising at a sedate 90mph from its 130 hp Gipsy Major.

A truly unique once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to don a shepherd’s crook and drive sheep across London Bridge in the historic annual Woolmen’s Sheep Drive. Join over 600 Freemen of the City exercising their ancient right to herd sheep over the capital’s oldest river crossing. In medieval times, sheep farmers drove their sheep across London Bridge into the City to sell them at market. Freemen of the City were excused the bridge toll that was a required payment from those outside the City.
The driving of sheep to the City markets stopped many years ago, but in recent years the tradition has been ceremonially re-introduced as a fundraising event, with a flock of sheep brought in especially for the event. As well as the sheep, the event sees representatives of many of the livery companies in their regalia and people dressed up in sheep-related costumes - from Little Bo-Peep to shepherds from the Nativity story – with Freemen receiving a personal certificate signed by the Lord Mayor to confirm they have exercised their unique rights.
Four tickets valid for Sunday 27 September 2020. An experience not to be missed!

Carved in Lavoux Fin Limestone and measuring 30cm x 30cm x 20cm, this unique stone sculpture is of a classical dolphin wrapped around the dome of St Paul's Cathedral bringing together two strong symbols of The City of London. The classical dolphin is a stylisation dating back to classical times that is seen in art dating from that period onwards. It is often seen on heraldry and all along the Thames Embankment there are the striking lampposts with these classical dolphins wrapped around them. Many people link them to the Thames and so to London.
This piece was produced by Miriam Johnson, Yeoman of Masons’ Company. As a stone mason, carver and sculptor Miriam has worked on historic buildings such as Southwark Cathedral and Robert Adam's Botanic Cottage in Edinburgh. When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
