Fundraiser Auction for Refugees in LebanonRead more ...
This fundraiser is to help defray the expenses of Daniel Eichner, who is to go in January 2017 to Lebanon to work with refugees there on a three-month contract, with likely renewal subject to visa conditions. He will be based in the Bekaa Valley, where there are around 300,000 refugees.
He will be working for Salam LADC (www.salamladc.org), whose aim is to provide flexible, effective and non-bureaucratic assistance. This is designed to fill the gaps where refugees and local communities do not receive sufficient support, in light of the overwhelming need created by the Syrian refugee crisis. They have projects in the following areas:- aid distribution, education, emergency response, environment, medical aid and social. Daniel will be working as a coordinator to manage teams of volunteers in some of these areas.
All the charity’s funds are used to pay for necessities for the refugees, so, in common with the others offering frontline services there, Daniel will be taking responsibility for his own flights to and from Lebanon, and for his food and accommodation there. Although costs are kept to a minimum by sharing dormitories and group cooking, this is a very onerous commitment for someone who has always put the good that he can do above the earning capacity of a career path. I would therefore like to try to raise the money to cover these costs for Daniel. I am sure that there are people, like me, who are massively grateful to those who give up months of their lives to work in this challenging environment, and who would be happy to donate or bid for an item on this auction to support them.Close.
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
