Book Title: A Very Private School
Genre: Royal Historical Biography
Format: Hardback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: Worldwide
The Book:
INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER
"A tour de force." --The Washington Post
In this poignant memoir, Charles Spencer recounts the trauma of being sent away from home at age eight to attend boarding school.
A Very Private School offers a clear-eyed, first-hand account of a culture of cruelty at the school Charles Spencer attended in his youth and provides important insights into an antiquated boarding system. Drawing on the memories of many of his schoolboy contemporaries, as well as his own letters and diaries from the time, he reflects on the hopelessness and abandonment he felt at aged eight, viscerally describing the intense pain of homesickness and the appalling inescapability of it all. Exploring the long-lasting impact of his experiences, Spencer presents a candid reckoning with his past and a reclamation of his childhood. And now, in a new afterword, Spencer reflects on the aftermath of his memoir's publication, including the outpouring of support and solidarity from fellow abuse survivors.
The Author:
Charles Spencer is an author, historian, public speaker, broadcaster and journalist. He is also the 9th Earl Spencer.
Charles Spencer is the author of seven non-fiction books, including three Sunday Times bestsellers: Blenheim, Battle for Europe, which was shortlisted for Historical Book of the Year at the 2005 National Book Awards; Killers of the King – which was the second highest selling History book in the UK in 2014; and The White Ship, the No. 1 bestseller on Amazon.
He has been the keynote speaker at hundreds of events in the UK, India, USA, South Africa, France, Australia, Canada, Spain, Portugal and New Zealand.
As a broadcaster, Charles Spencer worked for NBC News as an on-air correspondent from 1986 to 1995. He has been a reporter for Granada Television, has presented for the History Channel, and has appeared on many occasions as an expert on the BBC.
As a print journalist he has written in the UK for The Guardian, The Independent on Sunday, The Financial Times, The Daily Telegraph, and others. In the United States he has written for Vanity Fair, Veranda, and Nest magazines.
Charles Spencer was educated at Eton, and at Oxford University, where he earned his MA in Modern History.
Most recently, Charles Spencer has enjoyed success with ‘The Rabbit Hole Detectives’, – his new podcast presented alongside Dr Cat Jarman, and the Rev. Richard Coles – which takes listeners on a fascinating dive into the origins of real and symbolic historical objects.

Title: Normally Weird and Weirdly Normal - My Adventures in Neurodiversity
Format: Hardback Signed Independent Bookshop Edition
Genre: Biographical
Signed: Dedication: Not Available
Bid Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
What if being a bit weird is actually entirely normal? What if sharing our internal struggles wasn’t a sign of weakness, but strength?
For over thirty years, award-winning broadcaster and comedian Robin Ince has entertained thousands in person and on air. But underneath the surface, a whirlwind was at play – a struggle with sadness, concentration, self-doubt and near-constant anxiety. But then he discovered he had all the hallmarks of ADHD and his stumbling blocks became stepping stones.
In Normally Weird and Weirdly Normal, Robin uses his own experiences to explore the neurodivergent experience and to ask what the point of 'being normal' really is. Packed with personal insights, intimate anecdotes and interviews with psychologists, neuroscientists and many neurodivergent people he has met along the way, this is a quirky and witty dive into the world of human behaviour.
The Author:
Robin Ince is many things. A multi award winning comedian, author, broadcaster, bibliomaniac and a populariser of scientific ideas. He is perhaps best known as the co-host and co-creator of the Sony Gold Award winning BBC Radio 4 series The Infinite Monkey Cage with Professor Brian Cox.
As a stand up Robin has toured the world and as an author he has written four acclaimed books, including Bibliomaniac, earned him the prestigious Booksellers Association Author of the Year award. His fifth, Normally Weird and Weirdly Normal is published in May 2025.
He co-created the Cosmic Shambles Network and created the groundbreaking science variety night Nine Lessons and Carols for Curious People which has been adapted worldwide. He has received an Honorary Fellowship of UCL, an honorary doctorate from Royal Holloway College (University of London), and is a fellow of the British Science Association

Title: Scenes From My Life in Poetry and Prose
Genre: Biography - Poetry
Format: Paperback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
Scenes from My Life is a collection of short stories, poems and non-fiction articles. Many pieces have been published in magazines and newspapers, but some, until now, were for my eyes only.
When I began writing my memoirs in 2023, I thought, if I don’t get this body of work out in the world, it might one day be deleted. Each piece is part of me, written at times in my life that were happy, sad, or tragic. These times were imperative to my development as a human being and later as an actress and writer. Times when I met people who influenced me, encouraged me to take a risk, gave me the confidence to change – and most importantly, understand more, do more, do better, and follow my dream.
Each piece of work in this collection is a scene from my life.
The Author:
I was bought up in a busy pub in a market town called Lutterworth. For as long as I remember, I wanted to be an actress and writer. I was offered a television role when I was sixteen, but my mother wanted me to have a 'proper' job, so I did a hairdressing apprenticeship instead. Eight years later, aged twenty-four, I sold two successful businesses for a place at East 15 Drama College and a career as an actress, working in Repertory theatre, the West End, film and http://television.In 2000 I gave up acting, taught myself to touch type, completed a two-year college course and began writing articles and presenting radio. In 2010, after living in London for thirty-six years, I returned to Lutterworth, swapping two window boxes and a mortgage for a garden and the freedom to write - and I loved it. Since then, I have written a series of ten novels. The first four books, set in World War Two, introduce the Dudley sisters. Three post-war books follow, and then three mystery, crime and spy thrillers take the Dudley sisters to 1960. Each story stands alone but is interwoven with the other stories.

Title: The Real Coco Chanel
Genre: Non Fiction
Format: Paperback
Signed: Yes, dedication is available
Bids Accepted: Worldwide
The Book;
Coco Chanel lived her own life as a romantic heroine. Fuelled by 19th century literature, she built a life which was partly myth and, partly, factual. She was the fashion designer everyone admired. The business woman whose fortune was impossible to track. She was also a performer, lover of many high profile intellectuals and, as believed by many, a nazi spy. Her life was, extraordinarily, affected by history (the nazi movement and World War II), symbolism and literature. This biography explores her life from her troubled and poor past to the opening of her first hat shop, passions and secrets; the biography also draws parallelisms between myths and facts and how, and if ever, they match at all. The biography also features chapters on the Chanel Maison and the creation of her iconic trademark as well as her little black dress' and Chanel No 5'. Finally, the biography ends with a reflection on how the myth of Coco Chanel is represented today in pop culture.
The Author:
Rose Sgueglia is a writer, journalist and marketing consultant based in Cardiff. She is the founder of Miss Squiggles, a digital magazine and content agency. Her work has been published in different publications including GQ, La Repubblica, Yahoo and WI Life (a magazine for members of The Women’s Institute). She holds a BA in Journalism, Film and Media and a Post Graduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism from Cardiff University. She is currently working on her PhD in Media Studies with a research project on the impact material culture and audio-visual material has had on Chanel.

“Why I Became an X Troop Commando”
Genre: Historical Biography
Paperback
Dedication available
UK only
The Book;
A fascinating and moving biography of Colin Anson, the German refugee who became an elite British commando
Born in Germany in 1922, Colin Anson’s (Claus Ascher) childhood was marked by the trials of Nazism. His father was arrested by the Gestapo in 1937 and transported to Dachau, where he died shortly after. Colin, aged just 17, escaped to Britain in the Kindertransport. As soon as he was old enough, Colin volunteered in the Pioneer Corps. Then, in 1942, he was recruited for the elite commando unit X-Troop.
Colin took part in the invasions of Sicily and Italy in 1943, where he sustained a near-fatal injury. But just months later, he returned to duty. He fought in the Yugoslav islands, became the first Allied soldier to liberate Corfu, and was stationed in post-war Frankfurt.
In this unique biography, Helen Fry traces the remarkable story of Colin’s life. Drawing on extensive interviews, Fry recounts his actions in X-Troop and beyond in his own words—and sheds new light on the experience of refugees in the British forces.
The Author:
Helen has authored and edited over 25 books covering the social history of the Second World War, including British Intelligence and the secret war, espionage and spies, and MI9 escape and evasion.
She is the foremost authority on the 'secret listeners' who worked at special eavesdropping sites operated by British Intelligence during WWII. Her groundbreaking research and extensive media coverage have shed light on one of the greatest intelligence deceptions of the war: the bugging of Hitler’s generals at Trent Park in North London, and thousands of prisoners of war at Latimer House and Wilton Park in Buckinghamshire.
Helen is the official biographer of MI6 spymaster, Colonel Thomas Joseph Kendrick. She has also extensively written about the 10,000 Germans who fought for Britain during WWII.
Thanks to her expertise, Helen has appeared in a number of documentaries, including David Jason’s Secret Service (Channel 5), Spying on Hitler's Army (Channel 4), and Secrets of the Spies (Britbox). She has provided advisory services for TV and drama, something that she particularly enjoys. Helen has covered the major D-Day commemorations in live BBC broadcasts from Normandy, and she regularly appears in media interviews and podcasts.
Helen is an ambassador for the National Centre for Military Intelligence (NCMI) and serves as a trustee of both the Friends of the Intelligence Corps Museum and the Medmenham Collection. She works in London.
Helen is a recent recipient of the Lifetime Contribution Award for Jewish Military History and Education, awarded by The Jewish Military Association (AJEX).

Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
DETECTIVE JANE TENNISON'S POLICE CAREER HANGS IN THE BALANCE: A
SINGLE STEP FROM GLORY - OR RUIN.
While she has elbowed her way into an elite team investigating non-domestic
murders, there is nothing elite about her first assignments: a missing teenager cold
case and an apparent suicide Tennison suspects is, in fact, murder.
But as she uncovers explosive evidence, Tennison's new colleagues watch like
vultures circling prey. And, one by one, the cases no one else wanted are taken
from her - and the glory along with them.
Now Tennison has had enough: of the rampant sexism, snide remarks and
undermining. It's time to take what is rightfully hers from those who have held her
back.
She just has to do what she does best: find her prime suspect . .

The Book;
It's time to take what is rightfully hers from those who have held her
back.
She just has to do what she does best: find her prime suspect . .
The Author:
Lynda La Plante was born in Liverpool. She is the author of over forty novels, all of
which have been bestsellers. She trained for the stage at RADA and worked with
the National theatre and RSC before becoming a television actress. She then turned
to writing - and made her breakthrough with the phenomenally successful TV series
Widows. Lynda's original script for the much-acclaimed Prime Suspect won awards
from BAFTA, Emmys, British Broadcasting and Royal Television Society as well as the
1993 Edgar Allan Poe Award. Lynda is an honorary fellow of the British Film Institute
and was awarded the BAFTA Dennis Potter Best Writer's Award in 2000. In 2008,
she was awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to
Literature, Drama and Charity.

Title: The Not So Secret Diary Of Th’Owd Chap (Aged 79 3/4)
Genre: Autobiography
Format: Paperback
Signed - Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted:
The Book;
“They’ve arrived,”
194 pages of daft, of sad, of poignant, of hopeful, of happy, of the continuing chapters of an elderly gentleman of leisure, (for that read…”a drain on the economy”…according to certain politicians) and my adventures through life,
where I conquer the white knuckle Whicker Man ride at Alton Towers,
my underpants might disagree,
where a poignant meet up with the then love of my life behind Wigan Casino…”I’ve met someone else,”
where I do battle with an automatic bum spray at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre, we were performing there, the bum spray won and I got back to Ar Sharon dripping, she just said….”hmmm, not again!”
where The Cotton Street Project in the Liverpool Docklands gave a front door to homeless people,
where a lone sunflower shining a vigil by the Mersey Estuary gives meaning to the saying, “where there’s a will there’s a way,”
where the 22.17 Northern Rail from Liverpool Lime street to Garswood provided me with my best performance venue to date, albeit an audience of one and our first meeting with Mebz, Northern Rail Guard,
where an “erectile dysfunction vacuum pump” makes an appearance
and I take my Niagara tablet, they’re water tablets,
where Lady Chatterley landed in my lap and caused a frisson of excitement,
where my world was turned upside down with the death of my son, and then my wife,
where eating a chip on Cleveleys Prom can be full of difficulty,
where Ken Dodd took to the stage on Saturday and only came off on Sunday in Southport Theatre,
where I turned my back on life and retreated into the shadows,
where a black man was killed by the police in America and a slave trader looked on from his plinth in Bristol,
where I found myself trembling on Clitheroe Castle ramparts with Khan and Mohsin and beamed live from Lahore to Rawalpindi,
where my world has become the world of Cissy and Ada, two doves perched on top of a telegraph pole viewed through my front window, chitter chattering their days away,
where Boris Johnson is mentioned once or twice with maybe a hint of the “F” word,
where silence can shout out its message of hope loud and clear,
where an e-mail from “shag.uk.com” nearly ruffled my feathers,
where Southport Pier has become a condemned victim of rusty joints and arthritic limbs, a bit like me really,
where poo, pee, and a prayer become as one atop the physiotherapists couch,
where I meet painter L.S.Lowry in Manchester and he shows me his dark satanic mills,
where the Kama Sutra tickled mi fancy
and a bum spray tickled mi manhood,
where the Bickerstone Trail tickled mi testicles
and a hot water bottle gave me a knee tremble,
where tears nestle amongst a lonely grave in St.John’s Churchyard,
where Boris the slug made his mark,
where a fallen tree in Haigh Hall becomes a place for animal friends keep warm and snug,
where I got an unsolicited phone call and turned the tables,
he told me to “F” off,
I must have upset him with my tale of woe,
where I met the Iron Men on the Crosby coastline
and the waves spoke to me,
where 109 poems and tales will keep you going for many a day and night,
where Steve from St. Helens, on call engineer with his big hammer, beat a midnight shit out of my brother’s through floor lift,
bang, bang, “shit, shit,”
bang, bang, bang, “shit, shit, shit,”
mi thumb, “shit,”
bang, “bollocks,”
Jack was stuck half way up listening to Radio Manchester through his headphones and in a world of his own, I got back home at 3.30 in the morning,
and where Ar Sharon, my poetry daughter, provided those extra touches, those photos, those emojis, those corrections and settings and book title and liaising with Flapjack Press of Manchester where Paul Neads fine tuned the layouts and oiled the presses.
--
Of course without my Stephen and my Alwyn I wouldn’t be a poet,
I think about them every day.
I am of my laughs and sorrows,
what happened yesterday
is with me today
and will govern all my tomorrows.
I hope you enjoy this, my third book, two years and the rest in the making, give me your feedback and just maybe you might end up in my fourth book if I stay the course bearing in mind at my age,
the title gives you a clue,
tomorrow’s not guaranteed,
or tea-time today,
or finishing this sent..e….n….c……..

Title: The Little Book of Miriam
Genre: Biography
Format: Hardback
Signed: Signed only. No dedication
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book;
From ARNIE to DOLLY, BLACKADDER to SCORSESE; GRAHAM NORTON to HARRY POTTER; the VAGINA MONOLOGUES to ZOOM, welcome back to the irrepressible and unstoppable world of Miriam Margolyes.
Packed with her wit, wisdom and unfiltered stories, The Little Book of Miriam is a memory palace of Miriam's extraordinary life's standout moments, opinions and conclusions. Never forget that this is a woman who knocked back WARREN BEATTY, played to an audience of TWO THOUSAND NAKED LESBIANS, injected sex into the CADBURY'S CARAMEL BUNNY and was VOGUE'S COVER STAR AGED 83. Miriam is always full of surprises and this book is too.
Deliciously dip-in-able, thought-provoking and mirth-inducing, elegantly designed and always interesting -- whether sharing daring declarations, behind-the-scenes antics or talking about the indignities of ageing, this is a book as unique and extraordinary as Miriam herself.
The Author:
Born in Oxford, England in 1941 & educated at Newnham College, Cambridge, Miriam Margolyes is a veteran of stage and screen, an award-winning actress who achieved success on both sides of the Atlantic. She was the voice of the Matchmaker in Mulan & Fly, the mother dog, in Babe.
Her voice work has been internationally acclaimed & she is regarded as the most accomplished female voice in Britain: she has recorded many audio books including Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Alice in Wonderland & Alice Through the Looking-Glass, Matilda, Pinnocchio, The Worst Witch series, The Queen & I (one of the best-selling audio books in the world) The Little White Horse, The Sea, Troy & Wise Child ). Genre: TV & Film Biography
Format: Paperback (First Edition)
Signed: Dedication is Available
Bids Accepted: UK only.
The Book;
In 1973 Sophie Neville was cast as Titty alongside Virginia McKenna, Ronald Fraser and Suzanna Hamilton in the film Swallows & Amazons. Made before the advent of digital technology, the child stars lived out Arthur Ransome's epic adventure in the great outdoors without ever seeing a script. Encouraged by her mother, Sophie Neville kept a diary about her time filming on location in the lakes and mountains of Cumbria. Bouncy and effervescent, extracts from her childhood diary are interspersed among her memories of the cast and crew as well as photographs, maps and newspaper articles, offering a child's eye view of the making of the film from development to premiere - and the aftermath.
The Author:
Award-winning author Sophie Neville became inadvertently well known as a child when she starred as Titty in the 1974 feature film of Arthur Ransome's book Swallows and Amazons.
After that sunshiny time she went on to work for the BBC behind the camera on television programmes such as Gerald Durrell's My Family and Other Animals, Doctor Who and Eastenders. Having produced her own Inset series for BBC2 she was busy directing her second drama serial for children when disaster struck in the form of a mystery illness.
Fully recovered, Sophie now lives on the south coast of England with her husband. Every year she disappears for a while to ride in different parts of the world and has also been known to go sailing, but only when the sun shines.

Book Title: Looked After - A Childhood in Care
Genre: Memoir
Format: Paperback
Signed: Yes but no dedication is available for this book
Bids Accepted: UK Only
The Book:
Ashley John-Baptiste grew up in the British care system, living with five different families, without ever being truly part of a family.
It wasn't easy, or straightforward, and Ashley's ever-changing living situation affected every single part of his life - from his education to his sense of identity to his friendships and his hobbies. And yet, throughout everything his childhood in care threw at him, Ashley remained resilient and found a way to take advantage of the opportunities that came his way.
Now Ashley feels able to tell us - vividly and movingly - how, when it felt like the world was turning its back on him, he refused to be an outsider in his own home and set about establishing a new and positive life for himself.
Looked After is a memoir written from the heart that pulls no punches but demonstrates that given encouragement and love - and, sometimes, a second chance - a care-experienced boy can become a successful broadcaster, a loving husband and a proud father.
The Author:
Ashley John-Baptiste is an award-winning BBC presenter and journalist. A frequent reporter and presenter across The One Show and BBC News, he also presents the BBC One daytime series Expert Witness and co-hosts Dr Xand's Con or Cure.
Ashley grew up in foster and residential care in south-east London and faced a number of school exclusions and suspensions as a child. Despite this turbulent childhood, Ashley gained a place to study history at Cambridge University. Soon after graduating, Ashley fronted a BBC Three documentary about his childhood in care, which kickstarted his career as a BBC broadcaster. He is a much sought-after speaker, where he shares his journey with the aim of giving hope and insight to others.

When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
