Wee Replicators is a service that delivers 3D printing sessions. This is a rare opportunity to fund an entire year of workshops for children and young people visiting hospital.

Workshops give children and young people access to 3D printing technologies where they can make real things and feel a real sense of achievement as they see their ideas become a reality. Making things takes practice and concentration which provides distraction and demonstrates their own capacity and value to themselves and those around them.

The most unique part about our 3D printing workshops is that we do them in the Microtia Clinic waiting area. 3D printing can be a part of the child or young persons hospital journey if they choose to have surgery. Therefore, having the 3D printing pens in the waiting room gives the children and young people an opportunity to not only try something new and exciting, resulting in them being less anxious for their appointment, but they are also able to have a greater understanding of their options, having had a go with a similar technology themselves.

Art carts are a mobile arts workshop which can be making sketchbooks together in a big group or making sun prints on the windowsill in an isolation room. These sessions focus on bringing children and young people together socially, giving them the opportunity for creativity and decision making in an environment where lots of decisions are made for them.

Recently we have been working with the Play Team to use these Art Carts to support the parents too in a post-surgery ward. Knowing that their child is happy taking part in the art activity, the Play Team member can support the parent to take a break, get a breath of fresh air or make that phone call they need to make.

Specialising in men’s bespoke tailoring, Peter Johnston studied firstly at Heriot Watt University before enrolling at the prestigious Royal College of Art, where he practiced and perfected his skills in pattern cutting, hand-made bespoke tailoring and styling.
