Bookmark Project 2023
Read more ...The Bookmark Project auction is back for its seventh year. We bring together wonderfully unique bookmarks doodled by a wide range of authors, illustrators, artists, actors and others with over 500 lots for you to choose from.
The Bookmark Project is the brainchild of Sharon Hattersley and 1st Burley Brownies and all money raised goes to the primary school they support in Zimbabwe - Katiyo Sacred Heart Primary School. We are currently raising money to build and equip nursery classrooms at the school.
Last year the auction raised £14,000 for the school and we would love to match or even beat that this year.
We post bookmarks anywhere in the world, all our bookmarks are posted based on the bidding value so we may contact you about extra postage depending on what your bookmark sells for or where you are in the world.
Behind the scenes it is mainly just Sharon, who has a full time job as well as volunteering with the Brownies so please be patient if it takes us time to get back to you or if we make a mistake.
Please do not bid if you don't intend to pay
And finally a hue thank you for supporting our little project whether this is your first time visiting our site or you are a Bookmark Project veteran.

My name is Alison Mutton and I'm an illustrator based in Perth, Western Australia. I hold a BA with Honours in Design from Curtin University; I majored in Illustration, but I also do design work. I specialise in children's illustration, including fairytale-style fantasy and historically-inspired illustration, but I can produce almost anything if I put my mind to it. I've never been beaten by a commission yet!
I've been drawing for as long as I could hold a pencil, and was fascinated by stories and books even before that, so the opportunity to combine these passions is one of the most fabulous things I can imagine. I relish each new job as a chance to expand my skills and perhaps try something that I have never done before. I'm happy using a variety of media (sometimes all in the same piece) – pencil, watercolour, coloured pencil, ink, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fresco, Adobe Illustrator and Procreate. I'm allergic to oil paint, so that's one medium I steer clear of! Most of my work is digital.
With over ten years of experience, I have worked with a number of publishers and self publishers. I have worked on over 100 books for ReadyEd Publications, and have been illustrating picture books since 2014, when I illustrated Sioban Timmer’s Toughen Up, Princess for Jasper Press. In 2016 I self-published The Literary Romance Colouring Book and illustrated Ian Andrew’s poetry book The Little Book of Silly Rhymes and Odd Verses.
In 2017 I illustrated Sioban Timmer's new picture book, Feral Fergus, again published by Jasper Press, as well as two private publications, Maria and the Shiny Red Car by Beverley Knezevic and Godfrey by Tim Holmes. In 2019 I worked on Aqua Dog for Lisa Van Der Weilen, Clancy The Quokka (written by Lili Wilkinson) and Allen and Unwin and the cover for HM Waugh's The Lost Stone of SkyCity for Fremantle Press. Coming in 2020 is Poopy Pants, written by Dale Thomas and published by Albert Street Books, and Story Magic by Laurel Gale, published by Jolly Fish Press, for which I provided the cover. I love the way each commission is a completely new set of challenges, and enjoy adapting myself to suit different needs.

Hi! I am Jen, a freelance Illustrator and Designer living in sunny England on the Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire border surrounded by beautiful forest.
I love creating quirky characters and bringing their wonderful personalities to life. I have a passion for inclusiveness and am a strong advocate for representation in children’s books. I love the idea that we can change the world by the books we read and create and am excited about what amazing projects are out there waiting for me.
I am a volunteer branch co-ordinator for Reach Charity - a charity that supports children with upper limb differences. This charity is extremely close to my heart and I strive to play a prominent part in improving the positive representation for people with physical differences on TV, in picture books and in the media.
Please get in touch if you wish to work with me.

Drawing has always been a passion for Sharon since she was very young and it was her dream to be an illustrator from the age of 15. During her time at the Liverpool John Moore’s University where she studied for a BA in Graphic Design, she felt drawn down the route of children’s book illustration, but it wasn’t until she embarked on the MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art that her dream came true.
Since graduating from CSA, she has written and illustrated several picture books with Alison Green Books, Scholastic Uk, as well as illustrating for various fiction books.
Her most recent project is a new series called Animal Explorers, published by Alison Green Books, where different animal characters follow their dreams and go on adventures exploring different places. The first one features a polar bear called Lola who explores the Amazon Rainforest as a Plant Hunter and, in the second book, published in April this year, a tiger called Toby explores the depths of the Deep Sea.
She works mainly from her home studio, but also enjoys taking her sketchbook outside sometimes to draw from life both for pleasure and for building up reference material. She particularly loves drawing trees and, of course, animals.

I was born in Washington, DC in 1995, and grew up in Maryland - where you can still find me happily exploring.
I'm a Summa Cum Laude alumni from Savannah College of Art and Design with both my Bachelor's and Master's in Illustration, with also a focus in Animation. I'm influenced by everyday life and the world surrounding me. My work is filled with whimsicalness, with a hint of an underlying reality.

Magda was born in Wroclaw, Poland, where she graduated with a degree in Business and Environmental Sciences. After a few years working in the City of London and the birth of her two little girls, Magda dived into the magical world of picture books and turned her passion for drawing into a dream job. She is inspired by all things Nordic and would love to see her favourite character, Sven the Moose, in a picture book one day. Magda lives in the leafy and very hilly part of London called Gipsy Hill, in a house that keeps her busy with never ending DIY jobs. She is inspired by all things Nordic and would love to see her favourite character, Sven the Moose, in a picture book one day. Magda lives in the leafy and very hilly part of London called Gipsy Hill, in a house that keeps her busy with never ending DIY jobs. When she’s not drawing or drilling, you can find her at the local ice rink, even in the middle of Summer.

I trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, and what I loved about that time most wasn't being in front of an audience, but the visual and storytelling aspects of theatre. I've long since left the stage myself, but have taken those elements of theatre into my style of storytelling and illustration. I love to work with traditional line, sometimes mixing things up with digital colour. After studying book illustration with Carolyn Dinan at both Putney Arts & Chelsea college of Art, I studied writing for children with Mimi Thebo, Bristol University.
I have published a picture book, Cloth Monkey and am currently working on a middle grade illustrated fiction project.
To quote the great Gil Elvgren (THE pin up illustrator!)...
POSE, CLOTHES & EXPRESSION!
My favourite things are people, and animals.
I LOVE them, and if I can convey character within an illustration, then I'm over the moon. If you'd like to work with me, please get in touch.

Please contact us direct for postage costs if your bookmark is more than £50 or you need postage overseas. We ship worldwide.
You can visit Alex's website here: https://www.alexmannion.com/ and follow her on twitter at: @pigeonandquill
