Three years ago fishing legend Chris Yates kindly allowed us to produce a Life-sized Cut-Out of the iconic picture of him having just caught the British Record Carp of 51lb 6oz (known as "The Bishop") in 1980.

We took the Cut-Out to various shows and events and many people enjoyed having their picture taken with it. Now "Flat Chris" (as he has become affectionately known) is in need of a new home. We visited Chris this year and he was kind enough to sign The Bishop's belly. So this is a one-off item and an amazing opportunity to own a unique tribute to a piece of angling history. An opportunity to fish for two rods for two days / nights for Salmon and Sea Trout on the Plas Madoc beat of the river Conwy in North Wales. The river Conwy is traditionally a spate river with fresh water required to bring fish into the upper reaches of the system. The beat is situated at the top of the mean tidal point, which means that fish move into the beat with the tides and therefore offer opportunities to target fresh fish on a daily basis.

The Plas Madoc beat is two miles long with numerous pools, which hold Salmon and Sea Trout at various heights of water and is delight to fish with the fly although any legal methods are permitted. It enjoys the benefit of a fishing hut on the banks of the river in addition there are also toilet facilities available. The banks are easily accessed and the bed of the river is generally composed of gravel, which affords easy wading when it is necessary. The fishing is typically undertaken from a gravel bed with the fly cast towards a deeper channel on the far bank of the river, which in many parts is tree lined. Takes generally occur as the fly passes across the drop off into the deeper channel.

Fishing is restricted to the months April, May, June, July and August. Buxton Fly Fishing Club would like to offer the opportunity for one rod for one day to experience fly fishing on the upper river Wye in the company of a committee member, who will be on hand to discuss tactics and provide all the information needed to maximise your day.

Buxton Fly Fishing Club controls approximately two and a half miles of the upper River Wye in Derbyshire. It is a very attractive and scenic river divided into two beats which are upstream and downstream of a convenient car park. The lower beat is well maintained and provides very accessible fishing from the bank, or with minimal wading, while the upper beat is a little wilder but just as productive. Although a small river it holds excellent stocks of wild brown and wild rainbow trout providing dry-fly and nymph fishing of the highest quality and enjoys an excellent mayfly hatch.

The river is best fished with smaller lighter tackle with rods of 7’ to 8’ rated for #3/4 lines being ideal. The club operates a catch and release policy. Only flies which fit in with the nature of the fishing are allowed with no large gaudy flies or lures. A mayfly imitation is accepted. Check, clean, dry will be rigorously enforced and anglers must arrive with DRY waders and equipment.
