Superhero Ball in aid of the Alex Lewis TrustRead more ...
Welcome to the auction page for the Superhero Ball in aid of the Alex Lewis Trust.
Alex had a common cold which took a sinister path when it developed into Strep A Toxic Shock Syndrome, Septicemia and Necrotising Fasciitis.
This resulted in quadruple amputation and Alex requiring extensive skin grafts and facial reconstruction.
The Trust was setup to help fund Alex's rehabilitation costs including wheelchairs, home adjustments, and prosthetics.
Myo-electric, microprocessor and muscle intuitive prosthetics are necessary for Alex to return to as near normal life as possible with his three year old son and partner. These are not currently available on the NHS.

Your kind support will be greatly appreciated.
The auction will run online until 12 noon on 21st April, following which it will re-open for bidding at the Ball on 22nd April.
If you are unable to attend the event, please feel free to place a proxy bid here (the maximum you are prepared to pay) and the system will bid on your behalf. If you are the highest bidder at the end of the online auction your bid (and proxy bid if you have made one) will be carried over to the auction at the ball.
We will inform you after the event if your bid has been successful.

HOW TO BID
To place a bid click on the item, enter your bid and click on "Bid Now". If you are not already signed in you will be prompted to register (with your email and password) or to sign in, if you already have a jumblebee account. These details are requested so that you can be contacted if you are the winning bidder and will never be passed to a 3rd Party.
Once you have signed in you will be asked to confirm your bid - at this point you can uncheck "Show my name" if you would prefer to remain anonymous for that bid. If your bid is successful you will see a "highest bidder" message on the screen and you will receive a confirmation email. If there has already been a higher proxy bid placed on the item a message will appear to tell you that you have been outbid by a proxy bidder. If your bid has been successful but you are outbid later you will receive an email informing you and inviting you to bid again.
WHAT IS A PROXY BID
This is the equivalent to leaving a bid with an auction house if you are unable to attend the auction. It is the highest amount you are prepared to bid to secure the item. A proxy bid is any bid higher than the minimum bid required. If you make a proxy bid the system will try to win the item for you at the lowest price by bidding only the minimum increment required to win the item against another bidder.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE NOT AT THE SUPERHERO BALL ON 22ND APRIL
When you bid online, if you are not attending the Ball you may want to place a proxy bid so that the system can bid on your behalf before and during the event.
This online auction will be open for bidding until 12noon on 21st April 2016. The leading bid on each auction lot at that time will be carried over to the auction at the event on the 22nd April. If proxy bids are placed these will be carried over to the auction at the event.
Highest bidders will be informed by email shortly after the close of the online auction and winning bidders will be contacted after the 22 April event.
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new maximum bid if you wish.
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
